Question from DH: Getting rust stains out of concrete?

We have some little rust speckles on the walkway and driveway and it's driving DH absolutely, absolutely, absolutely insane. (Doesn't bother me one bit, but he's practically losing sleep over this  ) He's wondering if there's any way to get the rust stains out of the concrete. He's tried oxcilic acid (barkeeper's friend), zud, just scrubbing, and there was something else my dad suggested but it ended up turning the test-patch purple for a period of time and having no effect on the rust. He said the barkeeper's friend made the concrete super-white (dissolved the top layer apparently  ) but it did nothing to the rust stains.

Any suggestions?

The silly guy says it's bothering him so much, he wonders how much it would cost to replace the concrete (  )

(Really, this isn't bad y'all. My parent's concrete is pretty much the same, but it's causing DH so much distress because this is a new house. :p )

There is something called RustAid that we purchased at Home Depot. It works really well and it doesn't smell bad. Give it a try!

Tell Michael it is like the first ding on a new car, super disappointing, a real bummer, but he will get used to it, and worse. :)

Thanks Rita, I'll tell him to give that one a try.

Try navel jelly. You get it in the hardware department and I've got rust out of several surfaces with it but I've never tried it on concrete so I'm not sure about that one.

Navel jelly? lol. That made me laugh. :D

Bleach might work, too.

I didnt know concrete rusted

We got this from fertilizer (the iron) that slung onto the sidewalk from the broadcaster. But the worst was that some got into the pool and coping and deck around pool. It left ugly rust stains on the bottom of the pool. In the bathroom cleaner section I picked up a scrub thing that looks like wire screen that is used to clean rust and stains off of your toilet bowl. I used it on all the places I could get to and it worked! It just scrubs off the stain. I can't remember the name of it but I can find out if you'd like.
