Question for Vegetarians

As a vegetarian for the past 22 years I think I've heard every possible snarky comment. It used to bother me (when I was younger and more apt to lose my temper), but now I really couldn't care less. This is who I am, & this is the lifestyle choice I've made.

My favorite is still "you don't know what you're missing!" and I smile and say "actually, I DO know exactly what I'm missing and that's why I don't eat it." :thumbsup2

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

People don't ask me anymore about my eating habits, because I will invariably not get the snark and start enthusiastically talking about how wonderful it is to eat less meat and to eat only animals that had happy lives before they were killed and how wild game is so healthy and good. . .;) They would have to literally say "oh, I'm trying to be mean or demeaning of your choices" to my face before I would allow myself to understand that.:rolleyes1

I don't think I've ever had someone comment negatively on me being a vegetarian. I've certainly never had anyone say they were going to "sneak" meat into my food. I haven't eaten red meat in 12 years, and believe me, I know if I've consumed trace amounts (I have a physical reaction).

The only time it's really an issue is at summer cookouts. I solve this by bringing my own package of boca burgers or hot dogs that my host kindly cooks in foil to prevent contamination. Inevitably, my veggie food is such a hit that others end up with a black bean burger!
