Question for timeshare owners...

What happens to one's RCI membership if you sell your timeshare? Our membership is due to renew in September and we're thinking of selling.(For what we pay for annual maintenace fees, we could just rent weekly where we want to go.)

Dh would like to do another 5 yr renewal and be able to buy Extra Vacations through RCI but I think they'd know if we were no longer owners anymore, right?

You should read through the RCI terms and conditions document that is applicable to your membership (http://www.rci.com/RCI/RCIW/RCIW_index?body=RCIW_getTermsOfMembership#) and act accordingly, but my quick read suggests that a required element of membership with RCI is ownership of a timeshare week or timeshare points that trade within RCI and are current on the RCI system. From that I'd think that they wouldn't renew without a corresponding timeshare to deposit. I don't know what they'd do if you terminated timeshare ownership during the life of a subscription.

the way I understand it - if you renew now -- you will have your 5 years.

it is up to the resort to say you are no longer a member. - some resorts never do this.

The vast majority of resorts never do it. If you renew for 5 years you would have access for those 5 years. In fact they would probably hound you to renew again & if you paid you would remain an RCI member - with or without owning a timeshare. They simply do not check that very often if ever. They like having paying members.

From everything I've ever heard, you can stay a member indefinitely as long as you don't bring it to their attention that you no longer own a timeshare. Your resort is extremely unlikely to get involved.
