Question for those with ADT/any security system

Do you have the little intercom thing? Supposedly, if there were an emergency, they could talk to you on this intercom, and hear you, without having to call. Do you trust this? Is that really the only time they can hear you? I don't want someone listening in just at some random time because the intercom is there. I was assured this can't be done, but want to verify.

Hmmm, we have an ADT Safewatch system, but I don't know anything about an intercom. We do have 2 buttons that are linked directly to the police and the fire dept. but I have never had to use them, thank goodness. I always thought they just sent an alert to those places to send some units, but maybe there is a mic too?? I wish I could answer your question. Now I am intrigued!

They offered this to us but we declined. I figured the direct link buttons to the police and fire were good enough.
