question for those with 2 (or more) home resorts

I am having a dilemma....

I currently have a ressie at AKV for a value studio jan 23-30th 2010 used 73 2010 akv points. My DH wants us to cancel that and stay at BLT instead. We currently have all 150 2009 blt points availible to us, plus all 2010's too.

I understand that if I were to cancel that AKV trip right now the points would go to the 2009 use year. And I also know that these cannot be used at BLT until the 7 month mark. But since they have to be used (or i will lose them).....

If it were you, would you make your reservation at blt for the first couple of days using your home resort priority and then book the rest when the 7 month window opens?

Or would you just wait for the 7 month mark and just do it all in one shot and hope for availibility?

What are the chances that I wouldn't get the rest of the days if I did option 1?

Sorry it's soooo long-winded... just wanted to get some opinions...

If it were me and the goal is to stay at BLT, then I would book the room at BLT for the nights I could and then at 7 months, trade out what you can or WL for the extra nights.

When you cancel out the AKV nights, I would make sure that MS knows that you still want to use the "borrowed" points and to put back your 2009 points. This way, at 7 months, if you can switch, you know for sure the borrowed points will get used.

Yes, I think you have a chance for lake view at the 7 month window. People are getting BLT at the 7 month window for times in November and December so I can't imagine that you won't be able to secure something at the end of January!

I'd approach it differently. I'd make the full ressie now with BLT points then at opening 7 months out I'd call and try to change over the AKV to BLT using all of the AKV borrowed points and adding a few of your remaining BLT 09 points. If you get it all, you'll have 2 full reservations and can then cancel the one with regular BLT points which would be bankable. If you get it using BLT points but can't get all days using AKV points, take what you can and wait list any and all choices otherwise. It will likely be easier to get weekend nights at 7 months out which may help you decide how to approach this.

Well I called Member services this morning and i'll prob kick myself for it, but I cancelled our studio value at jambo in january.

so my borrowed points are back into my account for 2009.

they had a 1 bd mk view which i should have booked anyway but they told me that I couldn't call back at 7 months and apply those 73 akv borrowed points (from the ressie i cancelled) to my blt ressie and get back the that amount in 2009 blt points (which would then be bankable)

I guess I'm stuck waiting till next month and see what I can get at BLT at 7 months out and not risk M/S messing up my points...

While you can't just sub the points, you can accomplish the same thing if any of the same days are available at the 7 month window. In effect you likely can use those banked points in this reservation at 7 months out IF any of the days are available.
