Question for those who use Alamo

I've reserved a van for our October trip. Booked it through my Alamo Insider number so it's in my name. My husband however will do all the driving. Do I need to change the reservation to his name or can we just designate him as the driver at check in?

I have no personal experience with the but on the Alamo website it says that there may be a charge to add as second driver. If the reservation is in your name, then you may incur this charge (even if you don't intend to do any driving). Its probably safest to get the reservation in his name.

We just came back from a trip to Florida. We rented from Alamo in Tampa and was able to add a second driver for free.

Just called them on this. We are renting in Oct. Had the reservation in my name, but I don't drive out of state. I am the Insider member. I was using the 25.00 off code (AD3868JST) and Costco Code, (7015309), gives us an exra free driver. I had the reservation in my name, and they said to put it in his name. I did not use the Alamo Insider discount, because I got a better deal this way. So now I can do early check in, put my husbands info in and our friend info in, then use the kiosk, and go straight to the garage. I would put the reservation in his name.

I had the same question, so I called Alamo. They said it didn't matter, as I had the free extra driver anyway, but since Alamo Insiders is free, it was better to sign up my DH, use my Costco number and make the reservation that way. They said, since he was doing the driving, he should be responsible for the rental and if it was in my name, I would be responsible for it.

So check if it affects your insurance either way.

Have an email out to our insurance agent to see what our policy covers. May end up adding extra driver anyway. We are going for 9 days and I can't imagine he won't want my help driving at some point. Our discount codes don't include an extra driver I don't think , though it never asked me about adding an extra driver on the reservation process.

They were willing to add it for $120 more. I may just wait and see if any other discounts codes come out or take my chances at he check in desk

I added my husband online, and we are all good to go. You have an option to add the additional driver right online. You need DL info. You can skip the counter entirely. My husband and I do this all the time.

We have Costco, so there is no charge for the additional driver.

Thanks for all the great advice. This worked out well as I checked and our Sam's Club membership expires this month so I went ahead and joined Costco instead and used the member code. Same price as before but got the additional driver!
