My dd, 10 and I are getting tickets for Wicked for Christmas. The show is not until July. I found the soundtrack this morning at Best Buy and picked it up for my dd for Christmas. Here is the question, if you have seen the show, do you think it's a good gift? Do you think it's good to know all the music before you see the show or do you think it will spoil the storyline?

Thanks!

It didn't spoil the story line for me, but that's cuz I was out hunting for spoilers...lol.

There's really only one teeny part that may "spoil" anything on the soundtrack, I think. The rest of it may not make sense until you actually see the show....at least from what I can remember anyway.

I LOVE the soundtrack and listen to it frequently! :)

I've seen SO many Broadway shows and known every word to all the music.

I don't think this spoils it at all :)

My daughters are getting Wicked tickets and a surprise trip to NYC for Christmas - I am so excited I can hardly breathe!!! They've both been singing the songs from the soundtrack for months - they can do the two-part songs now and it's hysterical to hear them. They have no idea we are going -I told them the show is sold out for months. I totally think the soundtrack is a great idea - DD17 downloaded it onto her Ipod a few months ago!!

Go for the soundtrack! I didn't think there were any real spoilers in there. My DD knew all the songs before we saw the show too.

Thanks so much everyone. I will wrap it and put it under the tree tonight!!!!! Of course there are fringe benefits, because if I give it to her, I can listen to it too LOL.

It's a great gift! I highly recommend the book too...but not for a 10 year old. YOU should read it though.

Part 2 is out now too and I LOVE the title: Son of a Witch :teeth:

Here's an amazing gift for Wicked fans! It's called "The Grimmerie" It's a book, set up to look like an antique 'spell book' but has all the backstage info, tons of great photos, insider stories on sets, props, the 'green' makeup, etc. This is the one thing my DD has 'insisted' on for Christmas. When she saw it at Barnes and Noble, it took me 45 minutes to get her out of the place. She could not put it down.

Here's a link to the book so you can read a description but it's available for much cheaper from Amazon or at B & N.

I think it's a good gift, and no, I don't think it will "spoil" the storyline. There is much more to the story than what is covered in the songs. I do feel it takes something away from the experience though. So for me personally, I'm glad I had not heard all of the songs until the show. I enjoyed the irony of some of the lyrics and how they "fit into" the larger story of Wicked as well as the Wizard of Oz.
