QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE MOVED TO GEORGIA

I will be moving to Georgia in a couple of weeks. Just wondering, when moving to Georgia from another state, how did you get your driver's license? Did you have to retake the test, take eye exam and/or road test? Thanks everyone!

All states are different. Google Georgia's department of motor vehicles or department of licensing and it'll explain it all. Some states just have dmv and some states split them in two. Generally you have to take a written test and should read the book as some states have odd laws.

Moved here in 2005. I think the eye test may have been all we had to do. There was no written "rules of the road" exam. There was no physical driving exam either. We had to turn in our old licenses from MI at the GA DMV, and they gave us new GA licenses good for many years. We paid the higher fee for the version that was good for longer than the standard length.

Moved to GA from PA less than 2 years ago. License is easy. You have to go to the DMV office, but that's not a big deal. No tests required, just your money. You can chose from a shorter license term (maybe 4 years...I forget), or a longer one which is like 6 or 7 years.

Registering the car here also isn't that big of a deal. They changed the tax laws a few years ago, so it's not the pain it apparently once was. Still requires a trip to the DMV, but not rocket science.

If you're moving to ATL, be ready for the traffic. I will say that I don't find it particularly any worse than in Philly, where I spent the first 40+ years of my life, but there's just more of it. From here to Disney "should" be a 7 hour ride. We rarely make it in less than 8, because of traffic here in ATL...and that's with me trying to...ahem...make up time...once we clear traffic.

Thank you so much for all the helpful information. My husband has been living in Georgia since January in order to start his new job. We stayed until our daughter could finish out the school year. We've already been in some of that ATL traffic on airport runs. We are moving to North Fulton county area. Funny that you mention the drive to WDW, that's one of things my husband had to find out even before he took the job. We are looking forward to being back on the East Coast (we're originally from NJ) and closer to WDW. Disneyland is supposed to be a 6 to 7 hour drive from where we live but once you hit LA area, that has easily turned into an 8 to 9 hour drive each time. Thanks again, I greatly appreciated it. P.S.
