Question for those who have gotten a SW refund

Did you have to wait until AFTER you've traveled to get a refund? I was told today by SWA that I cannot get a refund until after our flight. Is this the norm?
 
Not sure exactly what your refund situation is, but that doesn't sound right. My flight went on sale, and I was able to cancel the reservation, get a credit w/ SW, and rebook within a few minutes. But I just have a credit to use for future travel now, it wasn't put back on my CC.

I'd call again and see if you get different info from a different person.
 
We got a refund of $300.

We booked, changed to lower rate...got $300 SW credit.
Couldn't use the credit within the year, called couldn't get extension because the credits expired, but was told that IF we used the same cc to book our next trip as the original trip, upon completion of travel they would credit the cc.

They did, it was great!

I changed our travel dates which resulted in a $300 credit. I purchased the tickets with a SWA credit card I opened up just for this purchase. I was hoping to get a refund to the card rather than just the credit that we will not likely use.

First person at SWA that I called siad no refund, second said wait until after travel is completed.

I'm just not sure if I should try again or wait until mid May for our travel to be completed.
