Question for those who attended the 50th Anniversary (actual day)

I plan on being in DL on July 17th, for the 60th and reading past experiences people said that they lined up at 2 am and waited until the park opened. I know that they got ears, and cupcakes and all that. What happens with the guests that arrive at around 7 am? I don't think my party would be willing to get in line at 2 am and stay there until the park actually opens.

I guess my question is, if they have "special ears" are they going to run out before park opening or do you think they are going to have enough for those who arrive and get in line at 7 am?

I arrived at 4:30pm on the day of the 50th and I received the ears, the cupcake and a commemorative map. I did not get the, pin, but there were not many of those anyway. The cupcakes they were begging people to take. We were sitting in Village Haus in FL the later that evening and a CM walked up and offered us a box of 6. She said an error had been made and then had tons of cupcakes. We could not take them as we had no refrigerator at our hotel and it was like 100 degrees!
It seems DL is even more popular than it was 10 years ago and they may not be the experience this year. All but Premium and premier AP's will be blocked that day, so that may mean fewer people than on the 24 hour day in May.

The Premier and Premium AP passes are not blocked out. (I have a Premium, I just checked the blackout days, and the deluxe is blocked out but the Premium is not.)

The 50th was also 2005, and Disneyland experienced quite a drop in attendance after 9/11 and it carried on for a while because people were afraid to fly. I would expect it to be at capacity this year.

Are they giving away anything? If not then I wouldn't expect it to be much different than a normally busy summer day. Very few people know what that date signifies.

Oh gosh, I am sorry lol. I thought you said all of the passes were blocked, that's what happens when I read without my glasses on. I have a feeling the people who have passes that are blocked may just bite the bullet and buy a 1 day ticket, but here's to hoping it won't be super crowded (but realistically speaking, I could see it reaching capacity..which is why I want to get there an hour or 1.5 hours before opening.)

I may wait until park opening to go in as I do not think they will reach capacity at 8am. Who knows? It's all a cr*apshoot at this point!

I second everything Lori posted. We were there for the 50th, but the crowds are a whole different beast now. I don't think the crowd levels on the anniversaries will be comparable at all, we arrived in later in the afternoon for the 50th and we enjoyed ourselves and did plenty of rides and ate with no problems. This year I just have no idea what to expect, I booked a tour and made an ADR for dinner, which I very rarely do.

I have been told by friends who are CM's that they are expecting capacity crowds, but TDA isn't saying whether or not they think it will be comparable to the 24 hr event. The wild card is there won't be as many AP's who can go w/o purchasing a full price ticket, but it is a peak time of the year and attendance is always increasing, so it's hard to say exactly how crowded it will be.
