Question for those who are pro-life.

I heard a question posed yesterday and it really made me curious how pro-life people will answer.

You are in a building that is used for the storage of frozen embryos. A fire breaks out and you can either save a baby or the freezer unit that holds 1000 viable embryos --- which do you save?

Please, too many variables to answer this question! Kinda like the old would you save you wife of your child question. Its not a cut and dried answer!

The baby. It's already alive. The embryos have the potential for life under the right circumstances, but there have been many embryos in the right circumstances (ie-in their mother's womb) which have not survived.

And yes, I am pro-life. And yes, I am pro-choice...the two are not mutually exclusive.

I'd save the baby. But, if any of the embryos were mine, I'd run back and try and save them and any others I could carry because they cost tens of thousands of dollars to create. If for no other reason than the financial cost to the people.

I'm pro-choice. I have my own beliefs about when abortion is "OK", but those are my beliefs and, even though I tend to "judge" in my mind, it's not up to me to impose my beliefs on other people. People do tons of things I don't agree with and I'm sure I do things people don't agree with - that's just how it is.

The living baby, of course. Just like I'd save my kids before my husband. You just do.

I would die trying to save as many as possible.

You know an already born child dies in this world every ten minutes from malnutrition..

Really, we had no idea!

Oh yes, children dying left and right is something to roll your eyes at. Cleary a pro-life attitude!

It has nothing to do with my attitude, when someone addresses a specific situation and you have to throw a comment in to make them feel bad is classy!

I didn't "throw in a comment to make them feel bad". I just pointed out a fact.

So ship them a hamburger.

I'd save the baby of course.

(In before this gets ugly)

A fact which has nothing to do with the original question.

Are you saying hat we shouldn't try and save as many embryos as possible?
Are oyu saying that we should try and save children who are already alive but in danger of dying of malnutrition?
Or are you just :stir:

I'd save the baby first.

And God knows there is enough food and money on this planet to feed the hungry. We just don't choose to use our resourses well. And I'm as guilty as the next guy.

Yes, and we all know that threads never go off topic. You can read into my fact what ever you want.

I would save as many as possible and as I was doing so, I would wonder why I was all alone in a building that was on fire trying to save these babies by myself.

How'd we go from one baby and a freezer full of embryos to the entire world's starving children? If I can save the embryos that are sitting right in front of me, I'll do it. If I was walking down the street and saw the world's starving children, I'd run to the store, buy some stuff, and give it to them. I'm not going to stand there, look at the embryos, and think "Gee, why should I save them when so many others are dying?", and walk away to make a point.

What if those were fertilized embryos waiting for implantation?

It's a stupid "what if" scenario used to paint pro-lifers into a corner.

Ohhh good Lord,

Here we go again.

What a stupid thread. :rolleyes2

Being pro-life has absolutely nothing to do with saving frozen embryos. Which have no chance of survival in this case anyhow. Once the units were unplugged (if the units were able to be moved at all), or once the embryos were removed from the units, they are probably goners.

And, there are plenty of pro-life people who are also completely against this type of creation of embryos, as they feel it violates the sanctitiy of life.
