Question for those that stay offsite-

We've stayed both offsite and on resort. With both we took midday breaks. We go first thing in the morning and head back to the resort or house early afternoon to beat the heat. After naps, we would head back out for the evening for dinner, rides, fireworks, etc.

We actually found offsite more convenient to do this since we had a car. A lot of the subdivisions are really close to the parks and we were able to go from park to home within 15 - 20 minutes. It took longer waiting for disney transportation.

Thanks for all the great answers and opinions. It certainly helps those of us trying to plan a trip to hear the views of veterans! Thanks much for asking that question (I am sure there are others out there wondering the same thing) and the feedback is appreciated.

We have always stayed offsite with our kids; and because we try to go during off-season the parks aren't always open really late, so trying to go back to our rental for a mid-day break is a waste of time and money. We end up staying in the parks all day, and when they were babies our kids napped in the stroller .

This is pretty hard to do. I think most people would get hungry before they were really ready to take a break. We typically have breakfast in our unit, lunch in the parks, and dinner depends on our evening plans.

Again, our experience has been that getting back and forth offsite with a car is no more difficult than onsite with the busses, overall. But, we have found that if the park closes at 8 or later, a mid-day break can make sense. If it closes at 7 or earlier, then it often doesn't.
