Judging from a previous thread, and the answers I received, many people have purchased DVC(and I'm not exactly sure what DVC stands for, but have a rough idea). For those of you that own this, how many times a year do you spend in Disney, and would this be your main vacation area for the year? I'm asking, because we own a cottage in the near north Ontario, and am wondering if you visit Disney, the way I would visit the cottage ie. on long weekends(about 4 days), and three weeks throughout the year. Also, where can I find more information on DVC.

Thanks,
Deb

Hi Deb, we purchased DVC (Disney Vacation Club) last July. With DVC, you purchase points versus weeks. We will be going this July for 10 days (got some free developer points from Disney when we purchased) and staying at a 2-bedroom villa. I also plan to go next March break with my son, probably staying at a studio. Our big family trip will be next December for a 3-day Disney cruise.

We only use our points every 2 years so we do alot of banking and borrowing. But every 2nd year we usually buy an annual pass and do at least 2 week or longer trips and a few long weekend/mid week getaway's depending on what prices we can get for flights.
We're not going back now until sometime next year - we might use our points at disneyland next spring then do a combo DW/cruise vacation in December of 2009.
We refer to it as Uncle Walt's cottage to our friends who ask where we're going for vacation :lmao: :rotfl2:

We tend to go for 2-3 smaller trips per year - approx 5 days each ish....we also bank and borrow alot. Very good information can be found right here on the DVC boards, as well as the wdwinfo link at at the top. You can also visit the official Disney site if you want the saccharin version ;)

I don't use DVC as you would use your cottage but since buying we've gone twice a year.

I live in Saskatoon so airfare is really expensive (approx $700/seat) so we tend to have longer trips (10-15days) when we do go. We found that we slow down and enjoy the parks alot more now because we don't have to do/see everything this trip, we'll be back.

In addition to WDW we usually go snowboarding/skiing in the winter, and spend some time in BC in the summer.

My biggest regret is not buying into DVC sooner, I would have enjoyed deluxe resorts at value prices for all my trips.

Our plan when we bought DVC was to go every other year for two weeks in August while the kids were in school and then change to two or three times a year for a week at a time. Our first trip was last August and we're already planning a long weekend in October. So much for our plans. Really we're going to go down as often as financially possible. :)

Living in Calgary we will be banking and borrowing and going every other year during Spring Break. Our stay usually lasts 10-12 days. This is our main vacation but we also go camping, lots of day trips and go to B.C every summer also. You can get more info at

We own 380 points and visit usually once a year. Usually 2 or 3 days at Vero Beach, which is Disney owned as well, and then over to the parks for 8-10 days. Wo own so many points so we can take family with us occasionally. Last year it was my mother, step father, brother and his family. We all had a blast.

We bought DVC back in September. Our first few years are pre-planned with one large 2 week avcation and then a few smaller stays thorughout the next 2 years.

After that our plan is to prolly do a one week trip every year and with banking and borrowing do something bigger every few years. But for the most part were pretty open to whatever we may decide each year.

For the next 2 years Disney will be our main vacation destination, but after that it will more be a smaller secondray vacation most years.

Hi there,

We too have a cottage north of Toronto and bought our DVC last year while on the Disney Magic cruiseship. Our summers are usually spent every weekend at the cottage. With DVC we have already planned to go down there 10 days in August SSR &AKL and were going back at the end of Nov for about a week. Were all very excited about it. Disney does things right and always make every member of our family feel special!
I would recommend it to anyone...

We go to Disney once a year for 14 days usually and have owned DVC since 2001 and have never looked back since purchasing the points. We are starting to look at AKLV as our next add on we currently own at HHI and SSR. We also have a cottage in teh Honey Harbour area and spend long weekends there in teh summer when we can and the wife takes the kids camping throughout the summer. I am not a summer person so I tend to stay home and use my holiday time up for Disney and then a week around christmas.
