I recently got my first tattoos - one black and one in colour. It seems that I am having a reaction to the yellow ink used because only the area around the yellow ink is red and irritated. I called the tattoo place I had it done at and they told me to use polysporin until it heals.

Has anyone else ever had this happen???? Did it heal okay????

I would definately have it checked out with your doctor.

You may need something a little stronger than polysporin.

Better to be safe than sorry.

My Husband said he had a reaction to the red and it took longer to heal but it did heal, BUT if you have a fever or big time swelling get it checked out fast could be something more serious.

Glad to hear that it healed okay...I have no fever or swelling...it is just red and irritated around the yellow.

I did check with my doctor and he advised me to contact the tattoo place to see if it was okay ...I contacted the shop again just to see how long it would take to heal and the owner asked me to stop by so he could see it....so I stopped by and he checked my tattoo and said it was okay....that it would just take longer to heal...mostly because of some other medical conditions I have...I feel much better now....and hopefully my "Mickey" will heal in time for my cruise!!!!!!!

The red in my Mickey CDN flag did the same thing it took longer than usual to completely heal but it did. I just used polysporin 2 times a day to help it along it looks great now to unless you have a great deal of swelling or signs of infection you should be just fine. By the way post up the pics of what you just had done.

I have 5 tattoo's bactraban is stronger then polysporn but you need a script for it ... I was told by my tattoo guy to only use vitamin e on mine never any medicated stuff :confused3 I had one that healed slow on my lower back .... in the shower let warm water run on it , don't scrub it and let air at it also keep it out of the sun or tanning beds for atleast 2 weeks ATLEAST

Just don't scratch it or rub it!!!

I have a couple tattoos... On the "fleshier" areas of my body - no problem with colour and healing, but on the boney areas, it was really irrated for close to a week.

Your doctor may have been able to give you a prescription for bactraban, I was lucky enough to have some kicking around from an old injury...

The red in my maple leaf healed slower than the black outline and looked infected. Mine is on my ankle and I have heard that they heal slower. I too was told not to use polysporin on mine just vitamin e. i think it depends on the shop.

Remember not to pick or scratch at it!

I do recall seeing the pics of your tattoo and one of my DisFriends actually asked if I got that tattoo....it is really cool!!!!!!

Now....I would LOVE to post pictures of the tattoos that I got but we are meeting up with some DisFriends in November and it has been kinda a joke about what I had done...so can't post the pics until we return because I want to leave them guessing until then....they do know I have been watching Miami Ink on TLC and I have been joking that at the rate I'm going I may look like Kat (who has lots of tattoos) by the time our reunion trip happens....I will say this though...it is addictive....I got the 2 at the same time and the next week went back to book an appointment for another one!!!!!...but I have to wait for it until after this one heals because it too has some yellow in it. I will say that they are all Disney related!!!!

I agree they are addictive I have 3 and have 2 more planned I just need to get the time to have them done I can't get them done before I go for my surgury in March either so it will have to be after that LOL. Thanks for the compliment on my Mickey flag I love it it looks much better now than in the pic taken just after it was completed.

Did you guys notice that anything with colours in it took a bit longer to heal? My first one had some colour to it and healed much more slowly than my second which was all black.

No only my last one seemed to take longer to heal all mine have colour in them. I have Calvin on my left shoulder and Elmo on my right shoulderblade and they both healed up very quickly.
