I think I'm going to give a 6 month Netflix subscription to my parents as a Christmas gift......

As I'm going through the check out, it says something like "now give the gift". I'm wondering if it will immediately send out an e-mail to them (I'm sure I'll need to give their e-mail address) with something like "Welcome to Netflix".

I want it to be a suprise, do you know if it sends out an e-mail to the "givee"? If so, I'll just wait until Christmas morning to sign up.....

TIA

You are better off calling Netflix...they will then send the email directly to you and you can print it with the code to give to your parents. Another note: They have a plan for $4.99 a month, which is for 2 dvds a month *one at a time, no computer ones...real dvds only. Well, you can't purchase that plan as a gift certificate anymore (though you can buy it yourself). SO...after a very long phone call with Netflix, I bought a THREE month 8.99 plan (which includes movies on the computer) BUT my sister can redeem it for the 4.99 a month plan that I wanted to buy...she'll get about 5 1/2 months of it. Basically, they are redeeming the cash equivalent and can purchase whatever plan they want. Hope this helps you!!

What a great gift idea :thumbsup2 I may do this for my parents as well because they are really difficult to buy for. I don't subscribe to Netflix myself so I'm wondering, do they need to have a computer in order to use the gift subscription ? ( that would be a deal breaker because my parents don't )

TIA ! :santa:

You could redeem the coupon by calling Netflix, I guess but you need a computer to set up and manage your queue.

We've given Netflix gifts the past two years. You do not have to give the recipients email address. There is an option to print a gift certificate to give as a present. The recipient will have to sig-up online to use it. It's easy.

Now the funny part...
We gave it to my parents two years ago, then last December got an email from Netflix that our gift hadn't been used yet and needed to be activated by (date.) Or we could activate for ourselves then or a week or so after the expiration. I called mom to see if they were going to use it. Oh yes, she says. Then I found out she gave it to my BIL. Fine. Whatever.

Last year BIL asked for Netflix. We got him a GC for it. A couple weeks ago we got the same email--not been activated yet. We didn't call him. After the expiration we just added it on to our account. :sad2:
