My doc put me on it last week and since then I've had really vivid bizarre dreams. I was wondering if that was something others had experienced and if so how long did it last?

I do feel better with it but I'm not sure i'll be able to keep taking it if these dreams don't stop soon.

TIA,
Daisy

YES!

I started to have the most realistic dreams... the kind where you wake up and SWEAR it was real, except for the odd things that happened in them. And I have never been one to remember my dreams.

It lasted a few weeks, but then it went away with other side effects I was having (mostly trouble sleeping and anxiety). I think maybe two weeks at most. I'll still have a weird dream once in a while, but in the beginning it was every night... now maybe once a month.

Hope that helps and I'm glad you feel better... it has done wonders for me :goodvibes

Me too! I actually take the generic form but I remember having really odd, almost disturbing dreams for a while when I first started taking it. They did eventually taper off, though I still have one every now and then.

Thank you so much for the replies. I am really tired of these funky dreams. I don't mind the dreams being vivid if they are something i'm enjoying. But bugs and the 85 year old neighbor running around in his birthday suit aren't exactly what I'd call "good" dreams. :lmao:

I sure hope they dont' last too much longer. Thank you for the input!

I really, really HATE Wellbutrin (generic name Bupropion).

It was withdrawn in the UK as an antidepressant and now the only way to get it is to say that you want to quit smoking, in which case they give you the other strain called "Zyban".

It was withdrawn because of a HUGE amount of related seizures. I had three whilst I was on it and it helped me not one bit.

What time of day are you taking it? I'm on the generic form and my doctor recommended I take it earlier in the day so it won't interfere with my sleeping.

I'm also on Ambien right now, so my dreams are weird anyway, but I've been on and off Wellbutrin for years without having any issues like that.

I've been on Wellbutrin for years. The dreams are like movies at first! I also had headaches and insomnia the first couple of weeks.

My husband is on Chantix right now, and he's talking about the same type of dreams, and he never used to remember his. Since Wellbutrin is also marketed as Zyban, it makes me wonder if Chantix doesn't have some similar ingredients.

I took Wellbutrin for a few years. I didn't quit smoking, which was the reason it was prescribed (Zyban not covered by my prescription plan even though it was the same drug). I don't recall headaches or insomnia, but I am an imsomniac anyhow so it would have to be bad for me to notice a difference. I do recall having some odd dreams - kind of like I have when I take codeine.

I did finally quit smoking taking Chantix and I hope it helps your DH. I had odd dreams when I was taking that as well but they got better. My husband couldn't take it at all - made him majorly depressed and gave him chest pains. But I understand that it does act differently than Wellbutrin and seems to have a higher quit rate. I am three years quit now and I had tried everything before Chantix came along. Good luck to your husband!

I just started on the generic version of Wellbutrin, buproprion. I don't think my dreams have been any more vivid than usual; I can usually remember my dreams after I wake up.

I'm having a good reaction to it. I'm more motivated, I feel more energetic, and I'm able to concentrate better.

No seizures, thank goodness.

He uses smokeless tobacco, which I hear is harder to quit that cigarettes, since more nicotine gets into your bloodstream.

He tried Zyban (but we had to pay for it; they wouldn't/couldn't prescribe it to him as Wellbutrin), but it didn't seem to help much. This has been an on-going battle for the past seven years. To be honest, I don't think he tries hard enough. I think he expects the drug to totally do the work for him, and to one day just wake up not wanting to dip anymore.

ETA: Congrats on quitting!

My doc put me on it because of my moods and we are combining it with Zoloft instead of doing one of the newer drugs that has both. I haven't had any other side effects and I take it at 7 in the morning and then go to bed about 11 pm. So I don't think it should affect my sleep that badly.

Good luck to all those trying to quit smoking.

I had very vivid dreams when withdrawing from Paxil a few years ago. But eventually went away.

I would talk to your doctor about it. If they continue, they can certainly put you on something else. Not sure if you are on Wellbutrin to quit smoking or for anxiety/depression but there are lots of meds out there. It may just take a while for you to find the right one.

Good luck...and maybe some night soon one of your vivid dreams will be on that you are happy it is so real. :-)
