Can anyone who just returned or any of the Orlando area residents tell me if the love bugs and yellow flies have gone away?

There was a thread a couple weeks ago about them. Love bugs do not bother me, but the yellow flies sounded like they were little biting monsters.

Leaving on Monday-should I bring the deet?

TIA!

bring the Deet!! I have never been bitten at WDW before but this trip everyone in our family had tons of bites. Just awful.

The love bugs were pretty non-existent though. Just here and there but nothing like in previous years. I saw a few cars that looked like they had gone through a swarm of them but other than that, they weren't a bother.

ETA~ we stayed at Animal Kingdom and Saratoga Springs

Just got back on Wednesday and I did not see one love bug. I got one bite our first day there...not sure what bit me. I carried the Off! With me but didn't use it at all.

We got back last Saturday - saw a few love bugs, but only here and there. Dh got bitten on his elbow by something unknown at Animal Kingdom, but other than that, no problems at all (and we didn't use Off or anything).

Hardly any love bugs, at least not an hour north of WDW where I am. As far as getting bitten by stuff...well thats Florida. Pack some Cortizone;)

We saw a few lovebugs in disney, but saw a ton no a swarm no infestation bloom of lovebugs at the space coast it was so bad we couldnt get out of our car at the space center, my windows/ doors were covered with them bugs... NASTY. I had a hard time finding a gas station to clean my windows since most of the area was filled with them. Lucked out in Cocoa Beach they werent as nearly bad.

As for those yellow flies, what are they? I got bit by one on our 1st day (maybe I could blame Kate Gosselin I walked into her that day) there well 2 bites on my achilles tendon my foot swelled up like a water balloon, turned red in spots, started weeping, went to MK to the 1st aid area they wanted me to go to the wellness center right away... I didnt go. The nurse put bactine and other stuff and sealed it with a big band aid. My foot was still swollen when we left a week later and then took another 4 days till I could see the veins in my foot.. So 1.5 weeks I dealt with huge foot.

I must not be able to handle those florida bugs.

We just got back from an 8 day stay at the World and didn't see a single yellow fly - did see one love bug, but that was it.

Got back a week ago and only saw a love bug here or there. My DD got bitten by something on her neck, which became infected. Nice. Don't think it was one of those flies though. It looked more like an ant or possibly a small mosquito bite. She got torn up by those flies 4 years ago and huge whelts on her legs.

My DD and I tend to get bug bites here at home and while on vacation, so Off is a
must bring item for us. My DD has awful reactions to mosquito bites so I take preventative measures. Bring the deet!

Definitely take the bug spray. We just got back last night from a week at the wilderness lodge and I got bit several times at the bus stop by the yellow flies, but other biting bugs were hanging out too. Just remember to reapply whenever you can because it is really hot and humid right now and I was sweating the bug spray and sunscreen off and forgetting to reapply, not fun.

Orlando resident. Love bugs are still here. Actually there season is really just starting.
But I was at Disney Last night and did not see a single one.

How is it that I live in Orlando and don't know what a yellow fly is??

No love bugs around for me. It's weird, during their swarming seasons I usually only see them at the parks, and never at my house all that much. I think they have a special place in their heart for tourists. ;) I've been to the parks the last few weekends and haven't seen any since around April time frame. We'll probably see some later in the summer or fall, or if we have a tropical storm heading in, they usually swarm before those.

As for the large bug bites you all are talking about, those are probably mosquito bites. We have the wickedest mosquitos here. I lived in the south before I moved here and NEVER got bitten, but then I moved here and they love me to death. They make huge welts about the size of a quarter. If you're going to be out in the cooler hours of the evening/dusk, you NEED to wear some sort of bug repellent if you don't want to be miserably scratching. If you do get bitten, Benadryl cream is magic.

I've got the Off! packed along with some anti itch cream-benadryl if we get it really bad.

Thank you for the replies!

Just got back last night from a 1 week stay. Saw 1 mosquito, but other than that didn't have any trouble (did Disney/Sea World).

Just got back on Saturday evening from a week in WDW. Didn't see the first love bug, but the yellow flies were ridiculous. In all the trips we've been on, I'd never even noticed them before. :confused3 Was sitting by the pool when Mom slapped her leg and said one of the flies bit her. I thought she was crazy until one bit me a few minutes later.

saw plenty of the yellow flies but no one in our family got bit. We were staying at POR which is the perfect setting for the yellow flies and we were never really bothered by them.
