We are leaving on Friday for our trip to WDW and will be flying. Since we will be there on Father's Day, I wrapped two gifts for my dh for that occasion, but now I am thinking that I have heard that the airlines don't like wrapped packages? :confused3

Can someone tell me if this will be a problem and if I should unwrap them now so we don't get held up through the check-in process. The packages will be in my checked luggage (not our carryon).

Please help. Thanks.

Bren

I don't think it will be a problem in your checked luggage, unless you wrapped them in metallic paper. The X-ray machine will look right through them. If for some reason they're tagged by the X-ray machine (like say if you had something electronic) they might get unwrapped. But they're not more likely to be tagged just because they're wrapped -- I don't think the X-ray machine will even be able to tell.

If they are something valuable I wouldn't leave them in your luggage. I wouldn't have them wrapped even in checked luggage. If they have to inspect your luggage you are alerting them to a gift. They have been known to disappear.

i've never had anything stolen from my luggage and i've flown a LOT.
Of course, you should never carry jewelry or anything of value like that in your checked bags, but a gift of a shirt or tie, should be fine.

And leaving it wrapped is also ok. Just be aware that when it gets to the other side, it might be unwrapped. But they xray bags. If it's just a shirt, they'll see that. If it's something electronic, they'll open it, but if it's electronic you should carry it in your carry on.

The presents aren't of great monetary value (he'll get to open those when we return). The kids just wanted to give him something small to open on Father's Day (t-shirt and some cologne). Plus the disney florist is delivering something nice for him.

So I'm not concerned about theft of the items but whether or not wrapping them would cause a problem.

Thanks for your replies.

In the past, when taking gifts, I take gift bags and tissue paper because they lay flat then put the packages together once I'm at my destination.
