Staying at WL in May...first time Disney goer since I was about twelve years old...

A friend of mine who stayed on property a few years ago suggested trying to get to a convenience store, or a grocery store or even a gas staion when I first arrive to pick up somehings..namely beer/wine/liquor/soda/snacks (mostly concerned about the liquor!! :teeth:  ) to keep in our room due to the high prices at the resorts.

I don't plan on like bringing any of it off property, but it would be nice to have a stash for ourselves when we are alone in the room, or hanging out on the balcony.

I don't want to sound like I'm being cheap, cause I plan on spending some serious money while I'm there, but it might take the edge off a bit!!

Any thought/hints/suggestions on this?? The person who suggested this said it might be difficult because we wont have a car, but that there are some gas station/convenience stores on the main roads..perhaps within walking distance.

This same person also suggested taking an extra suitcase full of beer and liquor...so he may be crazy anyway..who knows?? I'm not THAT depserate!! LOL :teeth:

We BYOB all the time! Don't feel cheap!
Here is how we get ours. We use a towncar service (quicksilver) to get from the airport to the resort. They offer a free 1/2 hour grocery stop.

We'll be at the Lodge in May also
Have Fun!!

Sounds great...I will probably cancel my trip via the hotel bus from the airport and look into this car service...What does it cost??

You're right I shouldn't feel cheap!!..Thanks! pirate:

We drive to Orlando and we always bring along some beer and wine. We figure we're spending enough in the parks and restaurants that we don't need to spend a fortune to unwind and have a drink in the evening. I have known others who have packed a suitcase full of snacks and drinks to take while flying. So bring the drinks or stop and get some on the way to the resort and do not feel bad as you will see alot of people bringing in food and drinks to their rooms. :cool1:

You need to visit us on the "Theme Park Attractions and Strategies" board...the "Mono-Rail-Drink-a-Thon" thread!

When we stayed at AKL last Nov...DH and I were drinking beers from the pool bar...$5 each. A CM walked up to us, crouched down and said, "Excuse me..."

I thought we had done something wrong. I couldn't imagine what he was stopping to tell us, especially cuz he seemed secretive. He said, "Why don't you go to the gift shop inside and get a six pack for $10? You can save so much money!"

Well, I really appreciated that cuz for some reason that never dawned on us.

You are smart to think ahead. Have a blast!

There is a service called wegoshop.com that will shop for you and bring it to your hotel for a small fee $15-20...cheaper then renting a car.

I always pack my own when on vacation. Being cheap has nothing to do with it. I'm a wine drinker, I like certain wines that are not always available. I very much enjoy a glass of wine while I get ready to go out especially for a nice dinner with DH.

If you are a beer drinker, go ahead and pack some so its there when you want it. when I pack my wine I pack it in ziplock freezer bags and have never had any problems.

I surprised DH last trip (a non Disney cruise) with a bottle of Jager (not my thing) and had no problems with it either.

One problem solved, now how do you keep it cold?? 12 pk for me and DH, but aldo need cold sodas for kids.

I think all the mods and Deluxes have fridges now. If you are in a room without one... how about getting one of those large fold down coolers?? We had one when we went to Maine and it worked great!!!

Don't feel cheap.... MANY people do this!!!!

Folding cooler!!Thanks for the GREAT idea. My mind seems to be getting cluttered because there is so much useful info here. I have completely changed our trip to stay on property and am re-arranging it all, I'm sure for the better!

steved-"CM" just means "cast member" and is the term used for ANY Disney employee. This particular guy happened to be a custodian type guy...cleaning up the grounds! I doubt a manager would suggest such a thing...they want to see profits and will not help you save money (for the most part.)

See you on the monorail thread! That is what "LOTW" stands for..."lushes of the World!" LOL!

Aha..Thanks for clearing that up for me!

I always bring a bottle of Southern Comfort with me. I'll stop at a store pick up some Coke so I can have my SoCo and Coke. Considering it'd cost about $7.00 per drink at Disney prices, this is a good budget item. haha

You can take the towncar service and ask to stop at an ABC liquors on the way and they have a nice selection of beer/wine/liquor as well as any mixer supplies that you may need. I never feel cheap when I bring my own but sure feel stupid when I don't. We spend plenty at the parks and always have wine with dinner and drinks when were out. But when were back in the room it's sure nice to have your own personal stock of preferred beverages as the selection isn't always exactly what you prefer not to mention the price. There is a little general store on the boardwalk that has some wine and beer reasonable for disney if you get stuck and want something to bring back thats not that far out of the way. Cheers!! have a great time!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Not that this has any relevance, but I seem to remember getting HUGE 32 oz Alabama Slammers at Jellyrolls last time I was there (01?) for real cheap - like $7 or $8. When you figure a drink that big is actually worth about 3 normal drinks, it is quite a bargain.

For anyone that brings food/drinks with them - is this something you put in your checked bag? Ever had any problem with breakage during flight? Or, do you keep this in your carry-on?

TIA! :)

I am interested in this, too. Do you put the wine bottle in your carry-on? A previous poster mentioned wine in a ziploc bag....
