This is a mission, if you choose to accept it.. ( picture Mission IMpossible theme music here)

I also posted this on the craft board, but wanted all sorts of answers as well.

I am in charge of my daughters kindergarten Valentines Day craft project.. however there is a limited budget...

So, I dug out all my kid crafty stuff... and this is what I have

(Picture this as a Ready, Set, Cook episode, instead Ready Set craft...)

I want to make something for 20 kids (mixture boys/girls) and this is what was in my basement

1 Box of 1000 craft sticks
30 (give or take a few) assorted pieces of wallpaper, different designs/colors

40 plus sets of medium googly eyes

about 25 pom poms different sizes/colors
assorted small sheets of tissue paper... (mostly green/purple/pink, but other colors.. some are crinkled, but usable depending on the craft)

decent amount of fun foam shapes... geometric patterns, and pastel colors.

1 bag of mother of pearl sequins
2 bags of silver sequins
and one bag of black tri beads... plus a small bag of earring backs..

one thing of yarn, and about 20 pieces of pre strung yarn, ready for lacing.. (with the end taped up)

Also some precut 1-2 inches long pieces of yarn, blue, green and red.

One spool of glow in the dark gimp
and one spool of 1 - 1/2 " wide white ribbon....

And some odd shapes of felt left.

What would you make..

The children have markers, crayons, glue, but I can bring some.
There is also a time limit...

What could you make?

Not adding anything to the list...

As you can see from my tag I am the ANTI-CRAFT so I will not be much help......until I can get home and dig out that craft book by MIL got me for Christmas. I am sure that it will have some ideas for you.

No ideas, but I can help with the music....

How about some valentine critters. You need some of that fuzzy wire, I forget what it's called, but you've got the makings of some pretty funny characters.
Valentine card holders of some kind,
valentines for mom and dad
???

Ok, TC.. too funny!

I can just picture instead of the tape recorder/briefcase blowing up (See, I'm young, I vaguely remember this).. a bin full of pom poms and felt....

Now that I'm done choking on my chicken salad (nice touch, TC!)

Let's see, you have enough pom poms and eyes for each kid, so definitely something with a pompom nose and two eyes.

How about butterflies? You can make heart shaped wings out of the wallpaper scraps, and then attach those to the popsicle stick body. Kids can decorate the wings. Attach eyes (maybe not the nose). Not sure what to do about the antennas.

You could also make a bouquet of popsicle stick flowers for their mothers.

That's all I can think of.

Donna:

Great idea for butterflies...

As for the antanneas I Might have some pipecleaners in the bottom somewhere.

Oh, that music is too funny! I so enjoy being on this Dis Board!
:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Okay, now for my "input" on crafty ideas....this is coming from a very "uncrafty" person too! Actually, I saw this idea in Family Fun Magazine while waiting in a doctor's waiting room & my DS & I are working on it now.

I bought some red & pink construction paper (actually what I bought was 2 packages of those paper place mats (50 each) since it turned out cheaper) & I use a heart shaped & a Mickey shaped stencil (my DH loves Mickey) & cut out shapes of each color. Well, I stencil & my 7 y/o DS is cutting out the shapes with his school scissors. We'll probably have about 10 to 15 each when we're done. (We only have about 5 to 10 mins each day to work on them before Daddy gets home so it's taking us a while.) On each cut out, we are writing why we love him so. I.E., DS writes "You take me to my Tiger Cub meetings" "YOu help me with my homework," "You take me to Disney" etc....and I'm writing my own & I'm also writing my 15 m/o DS's hearts (You change my diaper...you tickle my feet, etc...). Then when we're done writing out all our hearts & Mickey's heads, we will attach them to ribbon (I'm using 1/2" thick Christmas ribbon I have in basement) about an inch apart. Then I will glue each ribbon vertically to a poster board & I will write on that "I LOVE YOU BECAUSE...." & hang it off a door frame. When DH falls asleep, I will hang them on the outside of the bathroom door frame as that's the first room he enters in the morning, so he'll be surprised!

Does this make sense? I'm not very good at explaining things either!!

You can log on to the FamilyFun.com website & check out the Valentines crafts. Or..just type in Valentine's crafts & you'll probably get way more than you need!

Good luck & have fun!!

How would you do that?

I'm thinking ...

You use the popsicle sticks for the stems and make the flowers out of the wallpaper scraps. Or whatever else you have handy.

(It's very difficult to type these ideas with that music in the background without laughing!)

I have an idea! I made this with my daughters Kindergarten class and they loved it.

If you can get your hands on a polaroid camera here's a great craft. Take a photo of each child. What the kids do is create a photo frame. Use the popsicle sticks and either color them red with paint or markers. Glue the popsicle sticks in a square which will serve as the border of the frame. Then the kids can use all of your fun stuff you mentioned, foam shapes, pom poms, glitter, etc to decorate the popsicle sticks. You then just glue the photo to the popsicle sticks and there you go!

There's something about having their own photo to look at that just makes them so happy:Pinkbounc

Good luck!! This year for my daughter's Kindergarten class we are icing sugar cookie hearts. I'll make the cookies and let them go to town with the icing and candies.

if this helps the foam pieces are actually Heart ones mixed in there with the squares, circles, triangles.. fished all the heart ones out...

The wallpaper pieces are mostly about 8-10 round circles in primarly floral patterns with some dark colors (blues/greens) as the odd ones...

I was also thinking about bookmarks, and tissue paper carnations.. (I found some 10 pipecleaners in the bottom of the box)

Bookmarks.. take the white ribbon and cut about a 3- 5 inch strip with a little cut away in each end.. make 20 of those...

then uset three different sizes of heart One small, medium and large out of the wall paper samples...

Start with the small heart at top of ribbon, then medium heart, then big heart... they can glue the samples on the ribbon... once they are finished that.. they can add the fun foam, sequins on the paper samples...

tie a red yarn bow on the top!

How does that sound? All of it will be precut.. Basically its choose your colors from the samples and the color of the foam hearts (there are pink green purple blue yellow and white)

I don't want to spend anymore that what I already have...

You have some neat ideas already.

I just wanted to add that unless you have a specific use for the pom-poms, I wouldn't offer them as an "adorn as you wish" item. You only have 25 & that's almost a guarantee for tears in kindergarten.

Maybe you'd get some ideas at the Crayola site. Somehow I got on their e-mail list & they send me a newsletter every month with ideas.

Deb

this could be fun~ make up a bunch of heart shaped sugar cookies and frosting and have the kids decorate their own cookies using your craft sticks then decorate some kind of a box with all your other crafty things and put the cookies inside.

Oooo....lots of cool stuff ya got there (cool music too!:p )!! Here's what I would do....make "Valentine invention bags". I have done these for scouts and classroom crafts and the kids LOVE em!! You can use any theme...yours is Valentines day. Get brown paper lunch bags and put an assortment of your awesome craft stuff into each bag. Pass out a bag for each child and tell them to create something to make Valentines Day more fun!! Then watch em run with it!! It is amazing what the kids come up with!!!
Whatever you decide...have fun!!!

pm me a mailing address if you'd like some magnetic material. You know the kind they use for the fridge. My husband has a sign shop and uses this for magnetic signs for trucks etc. You wouldn't belive the amount of these scraps he throws away. The small packages in the stores sell for quite a bit and he throws out 10 times that.

If you send me a name and an address, Ill send you what I have on hand. You could attache it to the picture frame if you choose to do that.
