I am a teacher and have been in the same system for all 17 years. I am considering a move to another state and want to stay in teaching so I need to begin to work on my resume.

So since it has been a LONG time since I wrote one, does anyone have a recommendation for one that would be more appropriate for a teacher. I have 4 different certs plus a master's and I want to make sure I use one that is right for education.

Honestly, I've googled resume's but I'm not sure which one would work the best.

So any suggestions or websites would be appreciated.

TIA,

Daisy

I just finished working on a committee which interviewed 17 out of 100 candidates for a position at my school. I was amazed how different the interview process was from what I experienced 30 years ago. Just a couple of tips.

1. Dress appropriately. Nice suit if possible. Doesn't have to be expensive- just neat. I am not a fashion person, but the candidates who dressed professionally really made a positive impression.

2. Experience is great. The committee was much more impressed with people who could answer questions based on personal experience rather than what they read in a text book. Everyone has to start somewhere, but interviewing the candidates made me aware of how valuable even substituting is. In general, we were more impressed with the seasoned candidates than the ones fresh out of college.

3. Smile, and make eye contact. Don't feel pressured to respond to every question immediately. Take a couple of seconds to gather your thoughts. Convey the idea that you are sincerely happy to be at the interview.

4. If you don't understand the question, ask to person to clarify it. You will find the people doing the interview, especially if they are fellow teachers, want to help you.

5. Make sure you convey the idea that you are a "team player" and enjoy working with colleagues. It's good to cite your accomplishments but don't let them become the sole focus of your answers.

6. Reply with common sense. The teachers know that it is not possible to monitor 25 behavior modification charts, teach 5 reading groups, differentiate and teach 4 levels in math.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice. i'm going to have to buy a suit before i go to any interviews. I'm not a suit person. I'm more slacks and blouses. I don't do skirts and high heels.

Thank you for the advice.
