Question for SW/airline fare experts?

any chance SW will lower fares for a specific flight if there's a lot of seats left? We are 5 weeks out. It's not a huge deal, I'm just wondering. I paid like $125 for the flight when it first came out. my father decded later to come with us so I've been watching the fare for that same flight for the past couple months and it's been consistently $266, going down to $226 occasionally. I always do a search for 8 passengers (the max) and it always comes up available so it doesn't seem to be in danger of selling out any time soon. I check numerous times a day. I'm just curious, $100 isn't a huge deal, but it's more the principle at this point, lol. I don't want to buy it and then have it go back down to $125 after (i know you can get a credit, we don't travel often enough to ever use them).

If you only want one ticket, don't search for 8 tickets...if they have a lower price for fewer than 8 seats, you won't see it.

What happens if you keep waiting and the price goes up dramatically or it sells out? Are there other options? Honestly, at this point, I would be buy the ticket and be done with it. Who knows what might happen.

Highly doubtful you will see $125. i would buy before is the price shoots upwards even more. especially since you are going next month.

There is no way to predict it. Just like lottery numbers.

Absolutely agree! You just never know what will happen. I have gotten credits as little as 2 nights before our trip. And check at off times OP. More than once I have found the lowest price by checking at 11pm on Thursday night. Just one more look see before bed & BAM! There is a great price & bedtime gets put off, lol!

You might want to check prices on your travel days 2 or 3 weeks from now. See if they are higher than yours is currently. But with only 5 weeks left, you might just as well to flip a coin to predict if prices will go up or down. Good luck!

It's very hit or miss. Within six weeks, I always advise to buy ASAP; once you get inside three weeks you're virtually guaranteed the only place they're going is up.

FYI, I gambled on fares going down today and was right. I was buying it today no matter what the price, but my intuition paid off as it was down to $124 this morn. We are 4 weeks out.

ETA: actually, 5 weeks out as this is our return flight.

I'm glad things worked out for you, but if you know there's no way to predict what pricing will do, why would you wonder if SW would "typically" lower prices?

I know its unpredictable based on how many empty seats are left but i didnt know if there was a specific timetable where they might lower fares if theres still a lot of seats left. I felt/feel like this flight might not sell out as its not a popular time to fly I dont think (late sat. Night). So I figured they would lower at some point if there continued to be a lot of empty seats.
