When you book flights with points and you change to a cheaper flight (or if the price of the same flight drops), how is that handled? Do the points go back into your account...or do you just have points "credit" up to one year from initial booking?

The points go back into your account and remain active as long as you have at least one qualifying earning activity every 24 months, just like any points that you've never used.
