Question for Southwest Experts

Been trying to help my friend change an Oct 5 ressie from BUF-MCO that she got for $59 x 4 people to October 4 instead. Same flight time, same everything, except one day earlier.

For several days, flight has been up so she's been holding off. Today though, I plugged in 1 way BUF-MCO for the 7:45 AM nonstop flight and it showed me $59 for 1 person. Great! But then I plugged in 4 people and then it gave me $101.

I know if my friend calls SW now, she will be told the price is $101 for all 4 people. I had a thought and maybe some of you have already done this, so please let me know if this is feasible.

If I have 4 windows open, all with 1 person, all information entered including credit information (remember she has the October 5 that she has to cancel) and all that is left is to click the "Submit payment" button or something like that, can she get away with purchasing 4 individual flights at $59 each?

Or upon submission of the ressie for the first person, perhaps when we go and submit the one for the 2nd person, maybe it will show a message saying "Can't book at $59" or "Call Southwest to continue reservation" or something like that?

They want to make sure all 4 of them travel together (2 adults and 2 kids) but of course would want to pay the same $59 for each person if they could...

i just did this, SW is so easy to work with, assume ur talking a fare reduction not a DING?

have her bring up the ressie/new flight info, then call SW

the agent will help her separate the ressie, then she can change the fare for as many passengers as the rate is currently available; with the original ressie covering those for whom the fare is not available.

the agent will wait on the phone while u plug in all ur info to make sure everything is just right, good luck.

You used to be able to do this. Last time I tried it that loophole was closed. They had to close the "loophole", some people claimed it let you overbook a flight (by more passengers then intended).

You can book one at $59 and the rest at $101.

Sorry my post wasn't clearer, I was responding to the OP not to you.

I think you missed the OPs question.

Assume there is only one seat available at $59. You used to be able to open up 4 browser windows and start to make 4 reservations for $59. You'd then go back to each window and complete the reservation by giving your cc information. The result was 4 seats at $59 even though SW only intended to sell one seat at $59.

She could do what Lewis suggested, like separating the ressies, "converting" one person at a time to the $59 rate for Oct 4 until the agent says the next one is at $101, but the drawback here is she may get stuck with 1 x $59 and 3 x $101 or worse case scenario is her family's going to be flying on two separate days which she does not want to do. I've suggested to her that if she can't move everyone to the $59 for Oct 4, that she keep her original ressies for Oct 5 and get to MCO a day later. Of course that's a horrific experience right? Arriving at Disney 1 day later than everyone else!

I guess she waits for lower fares for all of them or fly a day later..
