We are staying at Penn's Landing (Hyatt Regency) and want to go to dinner at Devon's (S. 18th). It is only a distance of 2 1/2 miles. We don't want to walk, since we will have been up since 4 that morning traveling and we will be dressed up for dinner. Is is best to take a cab or is there another way that would be easier and/or cheaper? We are small town people & public transportation is something we have NO experience with. Thanks!

I am not real familiar with Philly but I just went there to visit my neice who is going to school at UPenn Vet. It can be a pretty confusing city to drive in if you are not familiar (I got lost with my GPS). I would just have the hotel get you a taxi.

I'd say a taxi is your best bet. Just have the hostess at the restaurant call one when you're done to return to the hotel.

The Market-Frankford Line (also called the El) on the subway runs up and down Market Street but you would need to walk many blocks to the El at 2nd and Market (which includes crossing the pedestrian bridge over 95). I would take a cab up to Devon at Rittenhouse Sq. It is an excellent restaurant.

Thanks! We will just get a cab then. :thumbsup2

PM'ing you phone numbers of cab companies to enter into your cellphone :)
I used to live in Phila and just had the numbers in my phone, much easier that way.

The EL is a possibility but a cab would be easier. I have been known to walk pretty far though.. to me that isn't that far of a walk -- we've done N. Liberties to South Street many times!

Normally I wouldn't mind walking that far. However, since our flight leaves at 5:00 that morning, I'm sure I'll already have a cranky kid on hand. I figure it will be worth the cab fare to not push my luck with her. ;) Plus, I know we'll be walking a ton this trip and I don't want to burn out too fast.
