Question for Republican Supporters

I am wondering how some of you feel about the Republican campaign, (and the mainstream media, for that matter) ,now that it has been revealed that they purposely kept information from John McCain, the volunteers who were working so hard to get him elected, and you, the voters and supporters.

If the information that was revealed yesterday by the McCain campaign is to be believed, there were deep concerns with Sarah Palin's abilities. They have said that she struggled with basic geography (Africa being a continent, which countries were in NAFTA), and that she didn't understand the roles of various government branches (federal, state, municipal) etc. They kept information from John McCain regarding her spending, etc.

For the record, I think that Sarah Palin is an accomplished woman. I think she was out of her league with this, but I believe she could have done more to educate herself and prepare for the debates and interviews. I also think she is being thrown under the bus by the McCain campaign.

I honestly would like to know how you feel about the party you supported. Do you feel a little betrayed that information that was crucial to voters in making decisions may have been withheld? Do you feel that John McCain himself was betrayed by his staff in keeping this information from him, when he could have had an opportunity to drop her from the ticket or do you feel he is partly to blame for not taking more time to thoroughly investigate her background and abilities?

For me, if I had been supporting Palin, I would feel that the wool had been pulled over my eyes by my own party and I think I would be bitter about that. If I had been a volunteer working for the campaign and find out that even the campaign knew she was unqualified, yet I was out stumping for them, I would feel like they made a fool of me. I also feel bad for John McCain because I believe that he was let down by the very people he was paying to run the campaign. More than once he said that she was ready to be VP, and that he was proud of her. I think his campaign keeping that information from him has made him look foolish, in retrospect.

How do you all feel about this?

I'm not a Republican, but I voted for McCain. I don't feel crucial information was withheld because I think everything coming out now is either an exaggeration or outright lie regarding Palin. I'm sorry McCain had some pathetic staffers that need to immediately start blaming rather than being introspective. And I'm sorry the media is giving these accusations any attention without naming these staffers.

I am definitely livid about how Palin is being thrown under the bus. I know many conservatives who weren't fans of McCain and would have just stayed home on election day, if it wasn't for Palin. She energized the Republican base. Overall, McCain did not run a good campaign. He was far too negative, and when Obama has hope and change everywhere, McCain couldn't afford to be negative.

:thumbsup2 ITA, although I'm a Republican. :)

I absolutely don't feel that the wool was pulled over my eyes at all.

Now that the elections is over, I wish all these anit-Palin threads would end once and for all.

I will with hold judgement until all of this junk coming through the media has had a chance to be verified and digested.

I think that most of what I read in the media is biased, and I will be checking the blogs (where the concept of objective journalism lives on) to see what the actual facts are.

Case in point:

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-f...s-says-his-role-make-obama-presidency-success

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah, well, you know what? I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work, and I think that --

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Is that your job? You just talked about being a journalist!

MATTHEWS: Yeah, it is my job. My job is to help this country.

This is going to fun! :upsidedow

Until somebody can "man up" and get in front of a microphone I don't put much stock in what's going around. All this wussyish whispering to Carl Cameron means zero.

Enough with the Palin bashing. I head another news story saying that all of this so called revelation about Palin was false. I am alot more upset about the way the MSM protected BO in order to help him get elected.

Your post gives the impression you believe everything the "sources" are saying. Unfortunately, I do not believe most things that people won't put their name or face behind. If they showed themselves, I would give them more credibility. I never liked John McCain, and made that very clear throughout the campaign. If it wasn't for Sarah, he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did.

JM is a democrat. The ticket was flawed from the beginning because of this. Liberal Republicans or Independents posing as Republicans never succeed on Presidential tickets. That had a lot to do w/ his downfall.

This is NOT an anti-Palin thread! I already said I think that she is an accomplished woman who is being thrown under the bus! How is that "anti-Palin"?????

I am honestly asking how Republican supporters feel about their party, given the information that has been revealed by the campaign.

Well said I totally agree. :thumbsup2

Me too. :thumbsup2 I think all these posts are right on.

Lucky for me, no one has mentioned this Palin/Africa thing to me in RL today so no one has ended up buzzed. :rotfl:

Actually, I'm livid about it, have said so on 2 other threads and am not going to waste my lunchtime going over it all again (y'all can thank your lucky stars that I'm shutting up).

They've thrown her under the bus and they have made it clear she is not their person for next time. They ran a very poor campaign and they know it...so Palin gets the blame and the bus.

Pay attention. I am not bashing Palin. I already said I thought she was an accomplished woman who is being thrown under the bus.

The question is: If the information is true, how does that make you feel about having supported a campaign that was not honest with you?

Well, you did ask how we all felt that the wool was pulled over our eyes and we were deceived by them about her.
I think most of feel they are likely the liars. Palin actually comes out of this looking better than ever to me.

If the information that was revealed yesterday by the McCain campaign is to be believed, there were deep concerns with Sarah Palin's abilities.
That's a pretty big IF.... but since all of your questions are predicated on the information being true, there's no point in bothering to answer at this point in time. I think the McCain staffer is full of fecal material. Even the Fox reporter said when later interviewed that he personally felt the staffer wasn't telling the truth.

It would be kinda like me coming here and asking "If the information revealed by certain web sites and sources in Pakistan that Obama is really a 'secret Muslim' is to be believed, would you be concerned about him hiding this fact from the voters???"

I was paying attention as were the others who agreed with me. ;) We don't agree with your premise at all and sayng it with a smile on your face doesn't help.

I think its horrible what these unnamed sources are saying are Governor Palin. I don't believe them. If they put a credible face to the charges, then I'll weigh the evidence.

What are you talking about, "saying it with a smile on your face", what does that even mean???

I am asking a simple, honest question. No hidden agenda. IF the allegations are proven to be true, that would mean that the Republican campaign and the media were not honest in how they presented the candidate for Vice-President or her abilities, to the voters. Even worse, it means she may have been misrepresented to John McCain himself when he chose his running mate. If I actively supported (and defended) someone based on information that had been given to me, and then found out after that fact that the information was not accurate, truthful or was incomplete, I would be very angry that people I trusted and supported were not honest with me. Wouldn't you feel the same way?

I think it is sad that the rep. party can't man up and just admit defeat. I hate the fact that they are pointing fingers and throwing Sarah under the bus, they knew what they were getting. I think they went with a strategy by choosing Sarah and I honestly do not think she is the sole reason they lost. I'm not sure if anything was withheld and honestly I don't think at this point that it matters. Mccain stood by his party and the party made the VP choice.

The media protected BO to some degree, but that is the norm. The Rep. party doesn't know where they stand and it is obvious that they are not intuned to the American public. Sure, they picked up almost 50% of the caucasian vote, but they lost the minority and the young adult vote hands down.

I think the American People gave the status quo government a swift kick in the butt.

BTW I did vote Mccain but I am not worried about Obama winning. I personally think that Mccain is probably heaving a huge sigh of relief. He did his duty, he represented his party as a man and a patriot and he lost with grace and dignity just like the man he is. Now he can relax and let Obama try and sort out this mess the country is in.

I hope you meant "some" in the party. I think most of us have accepted it just fine. I don't think a disgruntled staffer or two should be equated with the party as a whole.

Sorry, I didn't phrase that correctly - I meant the powers that be, not the general party population.
