Our 6 month old pug is having a bit of a weight issue- she weighs 15 lbs. The vet said to stop feeding her as much. I have never owned a dog before and was just feeding her what the dog food bag said she should have for her weight. She eats the dry Iams puppy food. What kind of dog food do you feed your pugs and how much? Thanks.

What a cutie. We had 2 pugs. One is sadly gone but my mother has the other. Tasha is 16 yrs old. Weight was always a prob. The vet always said they were overweight but as long as they got plenty of exercise they never had a problem. We really miss pugs they are so sweet.

I think most pugs do tend to be very good eaters. I feel so sorry for her, because now she acts like she is just starving. We were feeding her 3- 1/2 cups of dry food each day, and now she just gets 2- 1/2 cups per the vet's recommendation.

Giving this a bump.

A few years ago, my vet said never follow the feeding advice on the bags. It's usually way too much. I have a shepard/mix that weighs 60 pounds, which is too much weight for her. She only gets 1 1/4 cups of dry with 1/4 can of wet once a day. AM she has 4 small size dog bones, and a slim jim treat after her last outing of the night. Never any table good thou...that is not a good habit to get into.

I will ditto the bad table food habit. We have a 90# golden who DH thinks deserves table scraps. He cannot bear the thought of tossing out uneaten food when the dog can have a meal, too! The vet says he could stand to lose a good 10#. Well, the other night DH decides to have a late snack of ham salad spread with Ritz crackers. For every one he eats, the dog gets one. Needless to say at 4 a.m. I woke up to that raunchy sound of the dog puking. I had 3 piles to clean up!! I emphasized to dumb DH that he cannot be feeding him people food. The dog gets 4 soup ladles of Beneful in his bowl daily. I think the people food really aggrevated his belly and I told him it had to stop. Next time he barfs during the night, I will tell him to clean it or it will sit there (and maybe DH will step in it!!) till he wakes up.
