Do you think the fish and chips at Rose and Crown in epcot is close to your English fish and chips?
I loooooooooooooooooooove english fish and chips. Have had them many times in Yorkshire. I haven't found any in USA that come even close. I don't want to eat them in Epcot if they are just standard American fish and chips. But if they are really like english ones I would love to have them

Anyone tried them?

many thanks!!

I'm not a fan to be honest - they're kind of like 'chain' fish and chips, like mcdonalds burgers are to real burgers....does that make sense?

I apparently need to go to England to try some real fish & chips.

they come with Vinegar. that's as close as you will get.

that being said. Raglan Road apparently has appropriate Fish n Chips. at least according to the gentlemen we sat next to once with a distinctive London accent who claimed to have eaten there every single day for lunch over the past week and always got the fish n chips.

Ok so that is what I was looking for. I will pass them by.
We are not planning on going to Raglan Road at this point but something may change.

Thanks!

I have had both the Epcot and raglan road fish and chips. Can you get fish and chips like them in the Uk, certainly but you have to remember that we don't all have identical fish and chips here. There are differences in batter, fish, oil, cooking. They are a fair generic representation although Raglan Road are closer to what I would call a UK standard such as it is.

If the Rose and Crown's fish & chips are like those in England, please count me out. They were very greasy, thick, and tasteless - no seasoning or flavor, yuk :sad2: don't plan to get them again.

i find the fish and chips to be good and eat there every trip, however cookes of dublin in DD is better and has other choices as well, worth a try, both are a lot better than our local chippy . Some people say they dont like it but again it comes down to preference and what your used to. Why dont you get one try it and then see if you want a portion per person?

I assume that would be a hard question to answer. Imagine someone asking you about American BBQ. There are many variations and I would think that not all Fish N Chips in Egland are good.

Proper Yorkshire fish and chips have a distinct taste to the normal english fish and chips. They are cooked in beef dripping which gives them a unique flavour. Getting harder to find.

I live in Lancashire a few miles from the Yorkshire border and sometimes we go across to yorkshire for them (from a small hut by the side of the road)

We do have a good chippy near us which does lovely fish and chips (cooked in the more usual vegetable oil). I've never eaten at rose and crown but the ones at raglan road are similar to these. Raglan road also has the essential vinegar.

I had fish and chips there during our last visit and wasn't keen at all. Ironically we felt that the Rose & Crown meal was the worst of our trip and we were on free DDP for 14 nights so tried lots of different WDW restaurants.

That's what I thought too! Our fish literally dripped oil. :sad2:

Mushy peas look and taste exactly like what you would think. They are served with fish and chips in a restaurant. I "wasn't keen" on them at all.
When I was in yorkshire and got fish and chips in a "chippy" it was just fish and chips wrapped up in paper. It is to die for!

So is it like green peas, cooked and then smushed?

In a word yes! They end up looking a bit like baby food!!

Last time I had rose and crown fish and chips I wasn't impressed, so will try DTD next time!

Claire :)

While we're on the topic...well, sort of, at least...

what the heck is bubble and squeak? :rolleyes1

Mushy peas are made from what we call 'marrowfat peas'. These are mature peas which are allowed to dry out on the plant. The dried peas are then soaked and finally cooked down into a sort of somewhat lumpy soupy stuff. I've made them sound awful but I actually like them.

Bubble and squeak is traditionally a way of using up left over boiled vegetables such as potato and cabbage by mashing them up and frying them. It can be somewhat similar to the Irish dish colcannon. Again it sounds dire but is actually yummy with a liberal sprinkling of 'Houses of Parliament' 'brown' sauce.
