Question for Ontario (or Alberta) DVCers ....

... did any of you purchase direct from Disney (either initially or as an add-on) from home? If so, how does it work?

The reason I ask is that my plan to buy-in at WDW when were down this August fell apart. Long story short, my open house guide gave me false info (no points on an August UY until 2011) and so I held off. So now my plan - in addition to asking for a new guide - is to hold off until the new year at least (thus avoiding any 2010 dues and letting me see what happens to the BLT dues in 2011) and buy from home. If that proves too difficult, my other option is to hold off until our DCL Alaska Cruise in August and buy-in then.

(Sorry the post title excludes other Canadian DVCers, but I know ON and AB are the only two provinces who don't have provincial timeshare-solicitation regulations.)

Alberta has the legislation and this can not be done. In Ontario however, I think it's as easy as calling your guide. We had to wait to be face to face to do our add on through Disney. Because of living in Alberta, our other contracts (We own 3) had to be purchased via resale because we didnt want to wait for our next trip.

I purchased last June and did everything from here in Toronto. Very easy to purchase if you are in Ontario. All you need to do is get a lawyer to witness some signatures. You can message me if you want more info. I don't mind helping out at all.

We started the process while down there and completed it when we got home. Hence the deposit was paid there. When we were back, we had tons of questions and then filled in the paper and that was that.

Thanks for the replies. In terms of witness signatures, does it have to be a lawyer or could it be anyone designated as a "public notary"?

Public notary is acceptable from what I recall.

DVC is now licensed to sell in Alberta, so you are now able to purchase directly. Cannot remember exactly when this changed but I believe sometime this year.

DVC got licensing in either late 2009 or early 2010 for Alberta. I can only dream BC is on the list!

Oh that's great! I wonder if that makes us eligible for referal credits now too! I have refered to other families who have purchased... and have my Aunt looking at owning when we are down in December! One can always hope!!!

Dependent on when you want your first vacation using points, if you can hold off until your Disney cruise, you'll probably get the best incentives (on our cruise, besides the "normal" incentives, we we offered a $500 on board credit).

I'm planning on paying cash myself ... and if that means no extra legwork to get signatures notarized all the better!

We're still up in the air with our next WDW plans. Without DVC, it wouldn't be until Fall 2012 at the earliest. With DVC in the picture, it's pretty much going to depend on how well the toilet-training goes with my twin nephews. (We've done the infants in diapers thing at WDW three times now - and while it's not been an issue, we're not keen to do it again any time soon.) If they're trained by next summer, we would all love do a trip over Canadian Thanksgiving 2011 - in which case it would be nice to have the 2010 points to use.

Oh well, I guess I have until July 31st to decide between purchasing onland or on the cruise. (We want an August UY). Besides, who knows what incentives may be offered between now and then.
