Question for Ontario brides

I can't seem to find any useful information about whether we have to register the marriage in Ontario when we get back... My fiance and I are both Ontario residents, getting married at WDW.

I know we get our marriage license in Florida, but what about the marriage certificate? Do we have to submit some sort of paperwork when we get home so that our marriage is recognized in Ontario?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi Linda. I live in St. Catharines. From what I understand, you get the license in Florida and they send you the certificate a few weeks later. To get your marriage recognized in Ontario, you basically just have to take the certificate around with you when you change your name (if you are) and they will use that as proof your marriage, or at least that is what the lady at the health card place told me! When they are changing your name or marriage status, they just need to see an original copy of the certificate and take a copy of it.

I'd still double check if I were you, but this is what I was told!

I had the exact same question and was told yesterday that we didn't need to do anything at all. Except of course as mentioned below in relation to changing your name on ID. I was kind of surprised but that was what we're were told by the City of WIndsor/marriage license dep.

I'm from Toronto, and I was told you just need to take the certificate with you when you change your name and IDs. There's nothing special that needs to be done!
