Question for Old Time Military Members

Can anyone tell me when the date was that the US Department of Defense changed the pay date from the last day of the month to the first day of the next month?

Hubby thinks it was back in the mid 90's, but his friend thinks it was in the late 80's.

I told him if we posted it on the DIS, we'd get an answer. We can't find any reference to it anywhere.

I always got paid on the 1st and 15th and I joined in 88

I joined in 1986 and it happened while I was in. I think it was within the first year, so I would say 1987.

I enlisted in 1987, and I think it was within the first couple of years after that. When I first came in, we got paid on the 15th and the last day of the month. It was changed one year at the end of the fiscal year - they wanted to shift the pay for the 30th of September to the next fiscal year.

Just looked through DH's LES's (yes, he kept all 20 years worth of his LES's ), and his August 1987 LES states that pay will change to the first of the month effective 1 Oct 1987.

Thanks so much for finding that information for me.

You know some guy suggested that through the military suggestion program and got paid a couple of thousand dollars for that idea. But Geesh...I wouldn't have wanted to be him. I'll bet his co-workers hated him forever!
