Question for Moms - Diaper Stackers?

I'm pregnant with our first child (due June 30! ) and DH and I are going through the whole registry deal. We're pretty much finished with it, but are going back and forth on a diaper stacker.

There's a really cute diaper stacker that goes with the nursery theme we've picked out, but with this being our first, we're not sure if these things are actually useful. We've made a real effort to only put things that we'll need on the registry and would like to continue with that.

So - from the other DIS moms out there - what did you think? Did you have one for your kid(s)? Was it great? Or, could you have really done without it?

I chose other because with kid#1 the stacker was used and I always had one because it went with the nursery theme. But by the time kid#2 and #3 came around the stacker just hung on the door. Filling that thing was just another thing to do that was unnecessary.

First baby - I had one, and actually used it. For a few months. It was nice to put 8 diapers in there so you didn't have to count to make sure your newborn was using 8 diapers a day. (I was too sleep-deprived to count to 8 ). And yes, it was cute and matched my nursery.

Second baby - stacked 8 diapers on the changing table every morning. After the period of having to make sure they peed and pooped properly was over, I just kept the diapers in the package - lol.

ETA I actually used a DS for my first.. but we were using a cloth diaper service so it came in handy!!

I don't have one. Our little one is 8 months old now and I can tell you that I never once thought, "Gee, I wish I had a diaper stacker." I just have a basket in the top drawer that I keep filled with diapers and keep the rest in his closet and refill as needed.

Just one more step for a busy and tired mom to do! I had one and used it once before I had the first baby. Never used it again after I had the babies.

Pregnant with my first as well. I'm going with putting them in basket on top of her changing dresser, or putting them in one of the drawers.

It depends on how you have things set up in the nursery.

If you have a changing table to hang the stacker from, that might look neater than having the diapers stacked on a shelf of the changing table. If you plan to have a changing area somewhere else in the house, the stacker might be handy there. Some pack & plays have a stacker built in on the end, which I found useful. The pack & play stayed at the opposite end of the house from the nursery.

I can't remember if the diaper stacker came with our bedding set or if it was separate. I did use it for DS, but it wasn't really necessary.

I agree-used one for a while but found it was just as easy to keep the package of diapers open and available. Same goes with the changing table-they look great in the nursery but after a month or so we ended up just keeping a basket in the living room with diaper stuff and changing the kids on the floor. It was a heck of a lot easier and you didn't have to worry about the kids falling off the floor

for the nursery I had cute baskets on the changing table shelves and one held diapers (perfect sized basket from pottery barn kids). however, I still used the diaper stacker that my mom made me in my downstairs powder room. it was nice to have them on hand downstairs.

now, I would not call a diaper stacker a necessity, more like a nicety. you could definitely get by without one if you are looking to cut back. or you could always grab one later on if you decide you really want to have it after all. but a cute basket could be just as effective!

I had one in my first daughters nursery, Used it for about a week then it became another unnecessary thing to do when I was a tired busy new mom. Ditto the changing table, A towel or changing pad on the floor, bed or couch was much easier and more efficient. Just stash the towel or changing pad and all the necessary changing items in a basket and then you can move all this stuff to the room you are hanging out in instead of having to go to the nursery every time baby needs a change.

I had one...went with the whole nursery set. NEVER used it. EVER. This sounds lazy, but it was too much trouble to remove the diapers from the packaging and stack them in there. I just kept the pack of diapers at the end of the changing table (and a pack downstairs too). Worked for me!

I didn't have one with either child. I kept a few diapers and a package of wipes upstairs for nighttime changes, but most of the time, I changed them in the family room (the playpen with basinet thing was in there, and when they outgrew that, I put a blanket on the floor). I may have changed them in the nursery more if it wasn't upstairs, but it was easier to do it where we were.

I had one that I used for at least my first child, I can't remember if I used it for my second or not. I didn't ask for it on my registry, but someone got me one and it was cute so I used it. I don't think it is a necessity, but it can be handy.

Completely useless. We wound up with one, somehow and the thing never got used.

Yeah I got one because it came with the set and I used it for the first month and then it was like.... WHY am I taking the diapers out of a perfectly good bag and putting them in another one? I stopped using it. LIke someone else said it's just an extra step.

Remember, it's very easy to get sucked into thinking that you need stuff. You're on a new adventure, and you're hormonal. I remember with my first, I was obsessed with the idea of needing a wipe warmer. I brought her home from the hospital on July 1. Believe me, I did NOT need a wipe warmer!

I never had a diaper stacker. I put the diapers on the changing table.

Thanks so much for all of your feedback!! We're not going to register for the diaper stacker. We were thinking it was probably just one more thing the stores were trying to convince us that we need, and I'm glad to hear that confirmed by so many others.

We're so excited about our little guy! He already has his first set of Mickey ears waiting for him.
