my son broke his hand last week. he's on pain meds, right now vicodin. He's cut down to once in morning, once in evening but his hand hurts pretty badly. He's getting his wisdom teeth out tomorrow at 11:00. His orthopedist has said this is fine. It's much better for his dental plan to get them out during this insurance year.
I forgot to ask dentist whether he can take the pain meds. He won't be able to sleep if he doesn't take one tonight. I'm wondering if it would hurt to take it around 10:00. He will be having general anaesthesia for this.

If you are using a narcotic pain reliever, you need to call and ask. If you are using an NSAID, you need to ask about that as well because it may affect his clotting/bleeding time.

this is what i was afraid of. Is it important enough to call the emergency line? They're closed for the day.

Yes, and call soon because he may have to be off the meds for some time before the surgery. Also, a week of pain and needing heavy duty meds is a little out of the ordinary, I think. Maybe you should have the orthopedic dr check his arm again to make sure the bones didn't slip or anything.

I just had dental surgery yesterday. I was on vicoden for a week prior to the surgery. I still took it. I took it yesterday morning 2 hours before the surgery. The doctor recommended it. I would call your doctor still though.

he broke 4 bones in his hand. He went to the orthopedist, then for a cat scan, then back to the orthopedist, then to a hand doctor and more xrays.
The hand surgeon said it should hurt like this for up to two weeks. I was concerned about the use of pain meds but he felt there was no need to. My son is taking far less then the prescribed dosage and has already dropped back to twice a day.
I called the dentist. He said it was ok to take the vicodin tonight but not in the morning. I have twin sons both getting the wisdom teeth out tomorrow while on college break.

twin sons both having wisdom teeth out at the same time? :earseek:

Then that should be acceptable. Follow the dentist's instructions.
