I just got diagnosed as having sleep apnea, will this affect my travel medical insurance for an upcoming Disney trip? I travel soon, therefore my condition will not be considered stable. Can sleep apnea cause anything more serious???

Call you insurance company and inquire. My husband has sleep apnea and has never been asked to disclose that on travel insurance forms but your company may be different. Yes, sleep apnea can cause other issues if left untreated - discuss with your doctor.

The insurance will not cover anything related to sleep apnea because it is not stable, wondering what would be related to sleep apnea?

This is definitely a discussion to have between you and your doctor who diagnosed your situation, rather than strangers on a travel forum. Good luck getting it all sorted out. Your doctor is definitely the "medical person" you need to have this conversation with.

Review your travel insurance policy and your health/medical insurance policy(ies) and, if not clear, contact both insurance companies to make sure you understand the policy provisions and exclusions. That being said, the travel insurance policies I have seen in my personal and professional experience have typically taken a secondary payer position to health insurance. In other words, your regular health insurance would process any medical claims in accordance with the usual policy provisions and then you would make a claim with the travel insurance. I am not a travel insurance expert, but do have health insurance experience. If you suffer an illness that could be related to sleep apnea, I would expect the travel insurance company to request to review your medical records to determine if the condition could be related to sleep apnea.

As previously mentioned, have a discussion with your physician who should explain your condition and any more serious conditions that could develop as a result. It is my understanding that other conditions can develop, but I am not a medical professional.

Again, I encourage you to speak to your physician about the medical issues and review your travel and health insurance policies to make sure you understand how any medical claims (whether related to sleep apnea or not) would be handled.
