Question for May Repo cruisers

Regarding the crossing of the Canal- if a person were to just stroll onto the deck 5 minutes before the crossing begins at the first lock would she be able to find a good viewing spot? I'm not camping out!

I'd say the short answer is NO
(at least not if you want to be up front on deck 10)

Now for the longer version:

There WERE some folks on our cruise who slept on deck. Others got up VERY early to stake out a spot. I would say a good share of them were not about to move for anyone or anything during that first set of locks.

I thought the best place to watch going through the first set was from our balcony because the decks were sooo crowded.
Later in the day there were more options.

I liked being able to move around the ship and view things from different vantage points anyway. Pretty neat watching from aft as the ship behind us came through or going down and seeing the sides of the canal from the lower decks.
I was surprised at how few people there were when we went out on deck 4 that afternoon. Granted I didn't see any vacant lounge chairs but a great view and nice and shaded down there (didn't go there in the morning for the first set of locks, so not sure what it was like then)

We didn't camp out we went up about an hour before maybe and we were fine..right behind the people in the chairs who camped out.

Now, the problem was the people who came much later..trying to squeeze in..that was horrible. I had some man standing so close to me..I mean..right up against my back sweating all over me, it was disgusting. Couldn't believe it.

For the second two locks the best view is from your port side stateroom balcony, if you have one. Not sure what the starboard side shows.

The canal is totally amazing.

Also..the entire thing is shown..entering, going through the locks, etc..on your stateroom tv. So between that and our balcony, we didn't miss anything. It was excellent.

Enjoy your cruise..it is totally fantastic..and the food..well, it rivaled any 5 star restaurant food you could have!

In my opinion Deck 4 was the place to be. Not nearly as crowded as the upper decks (from what hubby said) and you are a little closer to the action.
They had beverage stations on Deck 4, characters walking around the deck and its not in the direct sun.

Another Deck 4 fan here! We went to Deck 10 around 5am and found a good spot. We stayed there through the Gatun Locks but then saw the other two from Deck 4. It was a lot less crowded, much cooler and for some reason didn't have all the bugs we had on Deck 10.

It really was an incredible experience!

Yes You could just wander up on deck and get a Good Spot since there willl
be about 500 or so Disers up there already..

watched alot from deck 10 but also spent a fair amount of time on deck 4..

Not with our experience! It was soooo mobbed, we gave up and went back to our room to view the sideways, balcony view!

Hopefully your trip will be better regarding campouts!

We did not camp out, but were on Deck 10 forward around 5:30 am and got a front spot. I think my spot was better than the ones that camped out. It was mobbed the closer to the time we went through the locks

It became "my spot" everyone knew where to find me on other port entrys!

We also went to deck 4 for subsequent locks.
