(Not looking for a passports vs. BC debate)

Since my birth certificate has my maiden name and drivers license has my married, will I need to bring some sort of proof of name change, like my marriage license?

Thanks!

You are not required to bring your marriage license or other name change document. However, the name on your cruise reservation needs to match the name on your driver's license.

That may seem obvious, but some people do not book their reservation in their full legal name--for instance, Ben on a reservation but Benjamin on a license.

I have always taken my birth certificate (maiden name) and driver's license (married name). The reservation is in my married name. I have never had any problems in 10+ cruises with this so you should be fine!

I went through this on our last cruise two years ago. My reservation was in my Married name (along with my DL) but everything else had my maiden name (Passport and BC).

I brought my marriage license but DCL change my reservation to reflect my maiden name before they would let me board.

So either way at least they will still let you on the ship, you just won't be married for that trip. :thumbsup2 (Kidding of course)

Your issue was different than OP's because your passport was in your maiden name. The passport must match the cruise name if you have one.

Almost every married woman had a BC that doesn't match her current ID. If that were an issue, a proof of name change document would be in the list of needed items!

I would just never bring everything with me again, way too much documentation that would be a pain to replace if I had lost all of it.

Either get your PP changed (it takes about 6-8 weeks, I just had it done at our local post office - you can also have it expedited) or make your cruise reservations in your maiden name (I did that 2 years ago when I cruised since my PP was still in my maiden name, I was nervous but there was no problem at all)

Just to be safe, bring a copy of your marriage certificate which you can often print from the clerk of court website in the county you were married. It does not have to have a seal. Ive been on cruises where it wasnt asked for and Ive been on cruises where they demanded to see it before I boarded because the DL did not match the last name on my BS. Do it just to be safe!

Let me throw another loop into this. I go by my middle name. The reservation is made under my middle name. My first and middle names are printed on my DL and obviously my BC. Do I need to have my full name put on the reservation or can I just leave it under my middle name?

Not sure about other states, but here in AL, I have all 4 (my first, middle, maiden & married name) on my drivers license so it does actually match both my birth certificate and reservation name. Not sure if getting your maiden name added to your DL might help?

I've used my birth certificate (maiden name) and my driver's. license (married name) on 8 cruises. I was never asked for a copy of my marriage license and I never had an issue checking in.

And the name on the reservation matched the name on the DL, right?

I also go by my middle name, but made my reservation with my birth given name. Just to make it easier, can you change your reservation to your full name? Yes, it was weird when checking in they referred to me as Anne, when I have gone by my middle name since birth (Kris (Kristine). Note to parents - why name me Anne Kristine when you plan on calling me Kris my whole life :):confused3

Thanks! I'll bring my marriage license just in case, I have the original tucked away in our wededing album.

DH goes by his middle name (John Anthony, everyone calls him Tony) but for official things where I know he'll need to show ID we always sign him up using his given name.

Ok, thanks for the help! :thumbsup2 So, I will have the name changed on the reservation, but then will the servers in the restaraunts call me by my first name the entire time? I might not respond ;) Is there a way to indicate that I do gy by my middle name?

We were on the Disney Dream in Dec and all they asked for was birth certificate and drivers license.

I recently booked a cruise with Royal Caribbean and they told me I would need my marriage license. So maybe each cruise line has different policies?

The only time I needed to show a copy (not the original!) of my marriage license was after I got married (and the tickets therefore booked under my married name) but before my driver's license was changed from my maiden name. This, however, was for flying domestically, not cruising, so YMMV.

Also, I go by a nickname, but always use my given name for things like this. So unfortunately, until or unless you correct the person using your given name, they will call you by what's on your card or reservation. Wasn't a big deal for me, though. In fact, I don't remember my serving team referring to me by name at any time. When I purchased DVC on board, that was the only time my preference was noted and actually used.
