Feel free to PM me if you don't want to answer publicly.

DH and I have friends who are LDS. They were married last year, but because they lived so far from a temple at the time, they were unable to have their sealing ceremony until now. They are having this ceremony in a few weeks.

My question is, should we give them a gift? We gave them a wedding gift last year, and would love to give them another gift to commemorate this important event, but don't want to offend them if it would be inappropriate.

What is the protocol?

TIA!

Anne

ETA--We obviously won't be going to the ceremony, we fully understand that it is entirely a religious ceremony and can only be attended by specific LDS members in good standing.

Well, my late mother was LDS, sister and cousins are...I don't think it would be in appropriate to give a gift on this special day. I would make sure it was something that is equally as appropriate....ya know, not a toaster. When my cousin and her husband were able to have their vows in temple, I think they had a small reception afterward and they received gifts...I didn't go since I'm not able to go in the temple...not LDS.

In a similar situation, my DS's uncle married in a civil service in the Phillipines, when his wife was able to relocate to the US, they had a renewal of the vows in a Missouri Synod Lutheran church and gifts were given then.

I think you should do what your heart is telling you...commemorate this very special occasion with your neighbors by giving a gift.

Thanks! We were thinking about giving them something personalized--engraved or embroidered.

Anyone else?

Anne
