I am thinking about buying a hydration pack. I prefer to only drink Aquafina. So I was thinking I could fill the bladder half way with the Aquafina and then freeze it. And then the next day, fill it with more Aquafina water.

My question is - can you freeze the bladder? (boy that sounds funny :rotfl: )

Thanks

Not sure if you can freeze them but have heard on these boards that most places in the park will give you a cup of ice for free.

If you look on the camelpack website, they do say that you can freeze them, and that filling it halfway, laying it down in the freezer, and then filling it up the rest of the way, will make it last longer than just filling it with icecubes.

Thanks for this information!!

swald91 - I'm familiar with the free cup of ice water. I got some at the MK on our last trip and it was awful. That's why I'm looking into the hydration packs. :lmao:

Yes, you can freeze it. I have used many brands and never had a problem. It will stay cold most if not all day. One thing to remember though, is it will give off a lot of condensation in hot weather. Make sure everything you pack in the storage compartments are protected. I have a pack with a vapor/water barrier between the bladder and the storage areas.

I'm not a fan of carrying anything on my back in Fl. (weather ESPECIALLY in August)
but my husband wants to use his from work.
I've never had any ice water there-I have a feeling I won't be asking for any either then:rotfl2:

DH uses his all the time in WDW. The cold back will help keep you cool throughout the day!!:thumbsup2

If you plan on freezing your bladder, you may want to invest in a second bladder and carry two. I have used Camelbak's for years, and one thing I have noticed is that the more you freeze them, the more likely they are to begin leaking. What happens is, as water seeps into the nooks and seams where the pack is melded together, as it freezes it expands, and stretches these areas to the point that they may become fouled. If this happens, your bladder is useless, as it will leak. Something that you may want to consider doing is refridgerating your bladder overnight about 3/4 full, and as you leave in the morning. put a scoop of ice in it. This is how I always use mine, and I have had cold water all day, and into the evening even in July and August when it is really hot in Central Florida! Plus, if you have bought the second bladder, when you load your bladder into your pack/thermal barrier you can go ahead and have the other ready to go in, and it will be ready when you are!
