We haven't been to the World since the new fast pass program (5 years). We were thinking about buying passes for the family as our main Christmas gift. How bad are the lines now? We are riders and we loved the old system of fast passes that we could wake up on a weekend and just go to the World. Now it seems that I would have to plan a lot more in advance.

We just finished a year of Universal passes and really enjoyed it. With the new price increase and new fast pass system- Im on the fence about buying the passes.

Lines at mid-tier attractions are up, debate rages as to the cause. If you want FP for a small handful of attractions, you must book 2 months in advance or you probably won't get them. Most others are little trouble to get at 30 days or less out. It's difficult to argue that more planning is not necessary now than before FP+ (assuming FP is important to you).

The green link in my signature is meant to be a FP+ primer.

My understanding is unless Im staying onsite- I can only make reservations 30 days out

I can normally get what I want a few days out to even the day before. Mine Train and Anna and Elsa almost always are gone before 30 days. Its not terrible, unless its a crazy crowded day.

And the parades. And Wishes.

I used to be a CM and made fastpasses the day before or in the car. Honestly, it's all relative to the amount of time you spend in the parks. If you are able to go a lot and get a lot of use out of your APs, you'll be totally fine making FP+ 30 days out.

I also had not been to the World in over 10 years when I purchased our FL Res. AP last January. This past year I have packed a few "spontaneous" trips in to break even on the cost of AP. I can't begin to tell you how much the park has changed. "back in the day" we used to pile in the car, drive the 2 1/2 hrs. and be able to hit everyone's fav. rides without to much trauma. I cannot do that now. the wait times are way longer, even with a cel phone full of app's to entertain you during the wait. There is alot of preplanning needed to acquire FPs' and then dance a ride/show/eat ballet with precision, grace & a bottle of water. I will not be renewing for a few years after this, but have enjoyed "relearning" the parks, missing what I knew, enjoying what is new to me, tasting better food than before and other misc. remarkable memories. I say go for it, but read read read & plan the heck out of your spontaneous vacations!! LOL

We typically make FPs a few days before we go and we seem to get everything we want most of the time. However, I'm not looking to make FPs for Anna and Elsa, 7DMT or any of the parades. Thursday I was able to book Soarin', Nemo and Spaceship Earth (thanks to tiering) for tonight with no trouble.

I also made FPs tonight for DAK tomorrow and was able to get everything I wanted. I really like FP+ for the way that we tour. We're 15 mins down the road so we go quite often and with FP+ I can guarantee that even if we show up at 6 pm, like we did tonight, we will get on the rides we want with little to no wait.

I do weekend day trips alot, I've been able to do fast passes the day before (I like being able to get an afternoon FP when I've not been there all day) AP is still worth it for me.
