Question for booking my first Disney Cruise

I've tried to look through some old threads but haven't found an answer to this. We are planning a Disney Cruise for next April or May. Because one member of our party won't know his work/project load until late November we don't know which date will work for us. But we know it will either be one specific cruise in April or one specific cruise in May.

It's killing me watching prices go up and cabins filling up. So would Disney let me (and would you guys recommend) booking both dates (of course paying the down payment for both) and then just cancelling one of them once his work/project schedule is officially announced? We would be able to make the decision at about 120 days out from the earliest cruise so that should be fine with the 90 day cancelation policy.

Just wanted to see if that is allowed and if any of you have done that before.
Thanks for the help!

People book back to back cruises and cruises not that far apart all the time.

As long as you're not booking Concierge and are before final payment, you could cancel the one you don't want for a refund.

Booking and canceling happen all the time. Book what you need to book now, and cancel what you don't want later. I've canceled several cruises and it's no issue at all as long as it's done before the deadline.

I believe they can they transfer the 2nd cruise down payment to the cruise they want to keep as well?

I've never known DCL to be able to do that. Maybe they can, but I've never heard of it.

Alternately, just watch the account and as soon as the refund hits, put it right back on the one you're keeping.

I had them transfer the funds to an existing reservation. Apparently, it's very unusual thought - the castaway line CM had to ask her supervisor the mechanics of making it happen.
When I tried to do that last year, they said I could only transfer funds to a new reservation. When did they do that for you?

You can only transfer the money to a new cruise reservation, not to an existing reservation.
And if the first deposit is larger than the deposit on the new cruise, they just apply that to the new cruise, they will not refund the difference.
