There seems to be so many.

I have a pug named Dyna. She's almost 5. As you can see it's the middle of the night and she's woken me up.

about 2.5-3 weeks ago I noticed she had been scooting and flipping around trying to "get at" her backside to scratch it a lot. So I took her to the vet and had her glands emptied. It had been awhile and they were pretty full.

We had discussed getting antibiotic put in them when we had her teeth cleaned next to help with that not happening as often (hopefully).

While she was in for that I had the vet look at her teeth and we decided it was time for a cleaning and booked it forthe next week.

Oh, also we moved here about a year ago and she was doing a lot of itching all over so I took her in and they gave her a shot for alergies (steroid I think). I remembered that on the way to the vet the first week, but they thought since it was all concentrated on her hind end it was probably the glands.

So, she had her teeth cleaned, and they did the antibiotic thing to her glands while she was out.

The next week she is still itching, but I've see her itch other places (this was on Tuesday of this past week, I think, or maybe it was Wednesday). Take her in and get a shot for allergies. Supposed to take a day and a half to work.

Well she is still itching her backside, or wanting DH and I to scratch it. Enough that she woke me up at 2:45 AM. I'm going to take her back in the morning, but WTH is going on?

Thought I'd see if anyone had had anything similiar. Oh, and no it's not fleas. The docs said she's clean while a lot of dogs have been coming in completely infested.

I feel so bad for my :pug: . She's such a good dog I hate for this to be happening to her. She's just miserable.

I've never owned a pug so I can't offer advice that way. I hope your pup stops itching soon. She must be feeling miserable.

Our Tia is 9 and while she occasionally scoots, it's not a regular thing. Thankfully, we don't live in an area where we get fleas :)

Since she's been at the vet several times, I doubt they'd have missed this, but is it possible she's got a tapeworm or something? It could also be as simple as a skin irritation due to a new shampoo or even a new detergent (sounds like she sleeps on your bed - if those sheets were washed in a new detergent, she could be allergic). Have you introduced any new cleaning products, shampoos, etc into your home recently?

Best of luck! Tia and I are crossing our fingers and paws for Dyna.

Our Golden Retriever used to exhibit the exact same symptoms you're describing. It turned out that he was getting mosquito bites and he was allergic. We went thru the same cycle every year, and it was frustrating. He always had to have the fur shaved off his hind quarters. Your dog could be getting any kind of bite (spider, gnat, ant) which sets off an allergic reaction. It could also possibly be a food allergy. I am surprised your vet did not recommend Benadryl. We gave it to the Golden, and now have to give it to our Lab who gets what we call "allergy ears".

Pet allergies are awful. The Lab has to eat special food - it used to be prescription food at $49 a bag (20 lbs does not go far with a 65 lb dog!) but now she can eat single protein/single grain chow. It's very hit or miss to diagnose since they can't tell you how they feel and the triggering event could have been weeks before the vet visit. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I was desparate at 3 in the morning!!

Turns out it WAS fleas, even tho she's on preventative. While at the vet I remembered that not long after I gave her the stuff she rolled in wet grass. Guess she rubbed enough off for it to not be effective.

So, at the vet this morning they gave her a pill to kill all the ones she had off immediately. Then I came home and gave her a bath and used this conditioner on her to help soothe the skin.

Then I proceeded to strip all the bedding, wash it (well, I'm still doing that). Vacuumed the house, treated with a spray, left for over an hour. Opened up the house, vacuumed again. Vacuumed my car since she'd been in it.

Oooof, I'm tired!! DH had a meeting all day, but is nice enough to take me to my favorite place to eat. Martini's, here I come!!

Dyna says thanks to you and Tia. She is feeling much better now. :pug:
