Hi ALL

I just finished watching star wars episode 3 on dvd.

In this one padame dies in Child Birth

I'm a little baffled-- a remember a conversation that Luke and Leia had in i think it was " Return of the Jedi" .

In which Luke says he doen't remember his mother and Leia says she remebers her very beautiful but "sad".

am I remembering right????
I KNOW GET A LIFE-- its only a movie--- but its bothering me.

any explanations
thanks

That is correct. They never really let you know in ROTJ if Leia is talking about her biological mother (Padme) or the adoptive mother, Mrs. Organa who adopted Leia along side her husband Senator Bail Organa.

I would also imagine the Leia's adoptive mother would be sad because her son, who was a Jedi, was killed in episode III when the Jedi's were being assasinated.

i just looked it up and he says " Do you remember your mother...your REAL mother?"

Well, they are Jedi right? Aren't they supposed to be a little on the psychic side? They can "feel" things etc...maybe she was "remembering" and "feeling" these things more psychicly than actualy.

or something................

Yes, this has been hotly debated over on TheForce.net and this is pretty close to the consensus actually. Even though Leia nor Padme were Jedi, the force was strong with them both, and they did have very brief contact when Leia was born so theoretically the force was so strong with Leia that she has these sort of psychic memories of her mother and could even sense the sadness that was going on at the time, etc.

When did this happen? There is no indication at all in the movie that the padawan Senator Organa watched die was his son. In fact, there is no indication at all in the movie that the Organa's had any children.

Why wasn't Leia Jedi? After all, Vader picked up on that fact that there was "another" if Luke didn't work out.

I was just going by what my son told me. I'm sure he's probably wrong as he is only 11. During the scene where Organo goes somewhere, he is told that he must just go right away and two guys have guns on him. He agrees to leave, hops in his plane. At that time, a young boy runs out to try to fight those "things" and he gets shot and killed. My son told me that this was Organa's son. Since I didn't watch the whole movie, I wasn't sure.

I don't think there's ever been any indication that Bail Organa and his wife ever had children of their own. As for the young padawan that ran out while Organa was outside the Jedi temple and was killed, I doubt that was Organa's son. (actually, I think the padawan in question was George Lucas' son) IIRC, the Jedi had very little contact (if any) with their natural families after they began their training.

Leia is strong in the Force, but has not undergone any training (that actually happens later in the books set in the years after ROTJ). She has potential, though, such as in ESB when Luke is hanging under Cloud City and she senses him calling for her. I don't believe Padme was force-sensitive, though I guess it's possible she was but never taken to be trained to be a Jedi.

I think GL wrote himself into a corner. Padme's dying as a catalyst to Anakin's fall made the most sense, but there was the matter of Leia's memories in ROTJ. He probably figured the explanation that Leia sensing memories of her mother through the Force was better than endless speculation of what eventually happened to Padme had she survived at the end of ROTS.

Padme was force sensitive?
I meant Leia, not Padme. Padme would not have needed to be "with the force" for someone else who was "with the force" to be able to sense Padme's feelings.

And remember, it's a movie.Done many years apart. There are bound to be holes.

In the Star Wars Insider magazine "Ask the Master" section (my DD9 is a faithful reader), they explain this anomaly by stating that Leia was played holograms of Padme while growing up, understanding her to her real mother

Well that's a neat way out of a tricky situation. ;)

My mother gave me the paperback book versions of eps ANH,EPS and ROTJ. I was wondering about that same thing.

another theory i just read was that padame actually survived ---

she died later on and that was the funeral procession was actually some time later--

that they little girl that they showed following the casket was princess leia

One of many balls GL dropped in making the prequels. I liked them, but he still fell so far short of the bar he raised himself with the originals.

If he was going to give it 75% (a generous number IMO), he would have been better off leave everything to our imaginations and not write or film the prequels.

The watching holograms explanation, as well as the Leia "feeling her mother" as a Jedi's kid, are nothing but people wanting to make themselves feel better given the number of screw ups by GL.

This one I don't believe because of the fact that Padme was made to still look pregnant at her funeral, so it would not be logical that she would be looking like that years later, or whatever.

This seems harsh. I liked the prequels. :confused3

So did I, but I realize they could have been much better if there was as much attention to the script, casting, and direction as there was to the special effects.

The real shame is what he has been doing to the "Special Editions" of the originals as well.

Young Anakin ghost? :rolleyes1
