This will be my first time staying at a DVC property. The trip was booked after the introduction of the new parking fees. I was able to get the reservation using RCI points, instead of it being a "cash" reservation. I'm not sure whether or not to expect to pay for parking at the resort. I've read the new policy, but it doesn't really go into detail a if you get the reservation via another time-share rather than as DVC owner.

The intent of this question is not stir up the parking fee controversy. I just want to know what to expect prior to checking in, so that I am prepared.

Thanks!

It should be that any DVC unit, cash or points or RCI, gets free parking. Every unit is represented by points. Every point pays dues. Dues include parking.

I agree with you they shouldn’t but doesn’t Disney charge a $95 fee at check in to incoming RCI guests even though their reservation was already paid for by DVC points? My point simply is that there is precedence for Disney charging RCI for things we think they probably shouldn’t. If they could get away with doing so I wouldn’t put it past them.

The exchange fee is also charged for DVC folks on some point trades, so it is hard to say.

So if a guest books a DVC unit directly through Disney, (them not being a DVC Member) they have to pay to park as well?

My guess is that RCI exchanges will have to pay the parking fee if not DVC members.

Probably not if you ARE a member.

RCI reservations may use DVC points but in this case, DVC owns the points, or at least has possession of the points with no further obligation to the owner. DVC can’t charge your guests parking, but theoretically you could. And so could DVC on their own points, or points they control.

I think it’d be much murkier if the RCI guest is DVC. You’re entitled under Florida law to use your timeshare without fees for common area access. RCI is a benefit of your timeshare.

Like I said, my guess is that they will charge parking for RCI, unless the lead guest is a DVC member.

"Because they can."

RCI should have disclosed it and I believe that they try to justify it as a transportation fee (DME/buses) but there's no good reason for it IMO.
