What kind of clothes do you wear?
I went through my winter stuff yesterday and while I have a lot of clothes, Im embarrassed to say I shouldnt be wearing any unless we go back in time to 1990. I love the stretch pants/long sweater look. Is so comfy for the winter, with those extra pounds on. Also, I have a few pairs of those tight, stretchy jeans, which actually look good on me, but again, they are way out of style. The reason I dont buy new clothes is because the clothes are terrible! If you go to the juniors section your get the worn out ripped jeans that come up about 3 inches under your belly button. Not a very attractive look for the mother of 2 children. However if you go to the older departments you get those fake denim pants with the elastic waist band. Im not ready for that yet! And Im mainly interested in comfy, around the house, day to day, inexpensive clothes. I dont need anything fancy. Help!

I'm only 26 but I usually wear either regular jeans (not lowriders) and a t-shirt or a skirt and blouse/t-shirt.

Maybe I shouldn't be replying to this thread, as I'm a bit older than 30 (but not yet 40 :D ). I completely understand what you're saying. I probably could wear the low slung jeans, but I won't - my daughter would die laughing at me. Scary, but the only clothes available for me these days that aren't super trendy teen fashions, or very old lady mumus, are plain old boot leg jeans and t-shirts or sweaters. So that's it. That's what I wear. I wear alot of Old Navy stuff. They have great normal looking jeans for a very nice price. What a drag it is getting old.

I'll be 28 in Dec and I wear a lot of regular jeans and capris with v-necks sweaters and shirts. I also wear cargo pants and regular twill khakis.

I have a few skirts that I wear with twin sets or v necks, and some belted sweaters. I own probably about 40 sweaters :D

I am past 30 :teeth: and I still shop in the juniors. I just like the junior styles, I can't help it, I love the cute t-shirts and jeans. Do not like misses department at all, the clothes just aren't me.:D

I'm with you, CamColt, I loved the leggings/sweaters that we wore back in the 90's. They were so much more comfortable than jeans. Nowadays, I stick mostly to regular jeans in blue or black and sweaters or basic shirts. In the cooler weather, I have a couple silk jogging suits I like to wear around the house or if I'm just going out to the grocery or to gymnastics. I'm very cold natured and they keep me warm! I know what you mean, though, it's tough to find appropriate clothes. I have the same problem with my 4 year old DD. Nothing but trendly clothes in toddler sizes when I just want her to look like a little girl!

while i am not yet 30, i would also recommend old navy. they have a lot of comfy, "normal", and relatively inexpensive clothes.

Im 32 and I like a little of everything!! (Gap,guess,BeBe,Ardenb)
But I was gonna suggest you try Gap they have a new (Maybe not new) But a stretch jean that are REALLY comfy and in Style.
THey have several different styles.
I agree I dont want to look ridiculous like Im in a costume Im too old for that stuff.(ultra trendy) But I like some trendy things and mix them with age appropriate stuff.

However if you go to the older departments you get those fake denim pants with the elastic waist band. Im not ready for that yet!

Okay I am older than 30 -- 40 to be exact. I don't shop in those departments either. You think you have it tough at 30...try being me!

Anyway, for the casual stuff I shop classics -- khakis or jeans with a cardigan (and either standard turtleneck or tshirt underneath) or the ribbed turtlenecks, and loafers or clogs for shoes. Nothing fancy. Old Navy, Land's End (great close out and sales), Target, LL Bean, and the Talbot's sale racks are my casual suppliers.

I do a lot of outlet shopping to get great deals on classically trendy clothes. That's the look I am going for but am not to sure how well I am pulling it off sometimes:rolleyes: ;)

I'm 29 (30 in December) and I stick pretty much to comfy, regular old jeans and t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters. Lots of Gap, Old Navy, L.L. Bean, etc. I don't have to dress up for work, so I tend to be pretty casual. In the summer, I do wear a lot of the long, sleeveless sundresses. I see a lot of cute stuff that I would love to wear if I was a few years younger and a lot of pounds lighter.

I am 34 and buy most of my clothes at Banana republic, gap, Ann Taylor and J. Crew. Sometimes, for fun stuff, Bebe and BCBG.

Anyway, the jeans that are a little bit lower cut (not the total low rise, mind you) are actually more flattering and comfortable for me. I have a little bit of a belly - and the jeans go right under it, instead of being pulled over it. Just try it, you will see what I mean. I got a pair of the stretch boot cut at the gap and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them (I think they are on sale right now too.) They have just the tiniest bit of stretch in them so they are comfortable as heck.

Khakis, buttom up shirts or sweaters
Jeans, tee's and sweats

I like the simple, classic look.

We are still in shorts down here....but once in gets cooler I just wear regular jeans and sweaters or button down shirts....whatever is comfortable.

I must admit every once and a while I will do the long sweater/black stretch pant thing with boots....Soooo comfortable!

I don't miss the long sweater/leggins look at all! lol
I agree with Lil Mermaid, those low-rise (not ultra-lows) are VERY comfy - They are my favorite - as long as I can find them in straight/boot cut (flares don't work on this 37 year old)
I wear some trendy stuff mixed with classics. I love Old Navy, clothes are cheap enough for me to beat up at work (I work in a welding-fabrication shop), but I can still look good for meeting with customers....

I have been ranting about poor clothing choices recently, too!!!
Most of my clothes are early 90's-ish, but back then, I was way ahead of the times, so now EVERY TEENY BOPPER is wearing what used to be on the fringe. It sucks! Now I feel like I'm trying to look 20, and I just feel silly! It seems nearly impossible to look different without being freakish (ok, back then I was comfortable looking a little freakish). I just hate blending in! Getting old is the pits!

Oh... the stretch pants with sweaters... you wouldn't have caught me dead in those... EVER!

I'm with you on the jeans. I've got Old Navy boot cut, just below the waist, and I love them. They are so comfortable! The other low-rise were just a little too low for me. I might have to try the stretch boot cut from the Gap thanks to lil mermaid.

Sounds like a lot of us shop in the same places. I don't want grandma or Britney clothes and choices can be few and far between.

I loved the leggings/sweaters that we wore back in the 90's.
Oh my, I just felt old until I read that...back in the 90's??????

I laugh every time I pass by Hot Topic. Punk (or at least a contenporary interpretation of it) is now mainstream. In trying to be unique they are now looking like everyone else. I think the real rebels these days must wear chinos and penny loafers. And cover up their midriffs.:teeth:

Punk is not alternative anymore... what I did back in the 80's was cutting edge, notw there are tons of mall rats doing the same things...

I never did the sweater leggins thing.. I did the army issue jacket over a black/grey Sex Pistols shirt, with my black button skirt with leggings underneath witih either my black art chucks, or my jungle boots!
