I am confused regarding tonight's 2-hour 24 episode. Is this just an extra for 24 fans or is it the actual start of this season's 24? :confused3

I think tonight's show is a movie based on 24. From what I understand the actual series won't premier until January.

Either way, I'll be watching. I love me some Jack Bauer. :)

I found this-

Fans have been waiting almost a year for the return of 24, television's most addictive drama. On Sunday, November 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the wait will be over as FOX presents a special two-hour prequel event.

Shot on location in South Africa, Jack Bauer battles an international crisis, while here at home the nation prepares for a new president on inauguration day. Taking place just a few months before the new day dawns, the prequel will set the stage and raise the stakes for Season Seven. "We're excited about the prequel because it explores Jack's complex emotional state of mind and still has all the signature excitement and suspense that fans have come to expect from 24," commented executive producer Howard Gordon. "Shooting in South Africa affirms everyone's commitment to making this season especially memorable for our fans."

Celebrating its 150th episode this season, the series has resumed production on "Day 7" and will unfold without interruption in its regular time period Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) beginning in January 2009.

Think of it like a bridge between the last "Day" and the next "Day".

So will the new season be a new story line or a continuation of last season's story? I haven't watched 24 yet on a regular basis (hanging head in shame), so I don't really know what is going on. I'd like to watch this year, but not if I'm going to be lost.

I'll be watching. I don't want to be lost in January. I'm trying to get DH to watch it. He's never seen 24 and thought this would be a good way to jump into it.

From what I have read and understand:
-Tonight's "Movie"/show is a 2 hour episode. It takes place in 24 hours (of course) somewhere in Africa (not sure where). It is set to take place after the end of last season and sets the stage for the upcoming season.
-No, the upcoming season is not a "fresh start." It is DEFINITELY continued from last season.
-The upcoming season sees a change in location from California (LA?) to Washington DC.\

Here's the passage from IMDB:
Kiefer Sutherland returns as Jack Bauer in "24: Redemption", the two-hour movie that will set the stage and raise the stakes for the seventh season of "24", coming in January 2009. After sacrificing everything for his country, Jack Bauer is wanted by the U.S. government and now stands to lose the only thing he has left: his freedom. Working as a missionary in Africa, Bauer is called upon to stop a ruthless warlord from drafting innocent children into his murderous militia. But first, Bauer must confront his own torturous past and face an impossible decision that will change his life forever. See the photos, get local listings, visit the official site for "24: Redemption", premiering tonight at 8/7c on Fox.

season 7 is a continuation of season 6 in the same respect that each season is a continuation of previous seasons. There's a time gap and a whole new story line.

Tonights show is a TV movie on it's own, set between season 6 and season 7.

I liked the show tonight. Its getting a little stale though. I would have thought with all that time off from the strike they could have come up with some fresh new ideas other than: Jack gets maligned, Jack is a hero, someone he cares about gets hurt and it forces him to be less human than he'd like to be... he's coming off very David Banner from the old Hulk TV show these days IMO. I'll still watch becuse I think it could be entertaining but its just getting old

What DID bug me was the woman they cast for President... seriously could she BE any more of a Hillary stand in. Uggg, maybe its just because I'm an X'er or maybe because I am just so sick to death of being hand fed blatant propaganda but I am going numb from the barrage of not so gentle prodding in one direction or another. I am not dumb. I dislike being manipulated and am seriously starting to resent the politicization of all things media related. Why do I need to think hard about propaganda every single time I turn on the TV. And the major media outlets don't get why my generation has tuned them out in favor of our own data mining... DUH.

We missed the first hour, I thought it was going to be shown on Wed. Did they show what the Jon Voight character was involved in? Was that character in the last season? Do we know what evidence the guy that was killed had on his computer? Thanks for any help.

I don't think the lady looked a bit like Hillary other than the fact that she was a woman.

I enjoyed the movie. It had the right mix of action and emotion and I'm looking forward to the new season!

Dang! We must have watched a totally different show. Propaganda? Manipulated? Hillary never crossed my mind for a single second. It was just a form of entertainment for me.

Could be.... could be.

Then again, maybe you are aligned with the media spin... in that case it wouldn't make you blink.

You're not alone. I saw it too.

But then I'm hypersensitive to that stuff.

I don't like when kids are involved. The first few minutes gave me a stomach ache. The show was OK - predictable though.

I liked the woman President much better than the outgoing one. What happened to the black President? I know he was hurt but did he die? I can't remember.

Ugh! Somehow I missed that it was just a "prequal" to the season in Jan.!
We've watched 24 from the start and I can't believe we have to wait until January now!

The story line of last night's episode reminded me of the movie "Blood Diamond" and it is a disturbing story line involving children. We let our DS watch and when I saw what it was about, I changed my mind with letting him watch it.

The storyline was sad but also based on truth. Did anyone see the ad about a group working to end children being used as soldiers? It's hard to imagine.

After last season, I promised myself that I just wouldn't watch this season. But I tuned in. I thought it was good.

I really liked the guy who stepped on the mine. I kept saying, "Oh, geez, I like this guy. I hope he doesn't die. But they're making us like him, so that we'll feel badly when he dies, I just know it. I really like him! I hope he doesn't die!" ...damn.

But I thought it was good. Not your typical 24, I didn't think. But really good.

What did happen to President Palmer II?? I just don't remember. He was having neuro issues, I know, but I don't remember him dying...of course, last season was so bad I may have blocked it out.

I didn't think "Hillary." 24 has always tossed out different sides of everything. Each side swears that the show is too much on the other side, so that kind of proves that.

I don't want a girl president, though. I still want them to bring back President Palmer I (not II, though). And I don't care how far-fetched or convoluted the story has to be to do that. Just do it.
