I'm going to Disneyland! I have a conference in San Diego. I'm going to fly to Los Angeles first, spend a couple of days at Disneyland (staying at a nearby resort), and then go to San Diego. How do I get to San Diego? Can I have a rental car delivered to my hotel or do I need to go somewhere to get one? I only have a couple of days at Disneyland and don't want to spend one of them procuring a rental. Is there a better way?

The only other way, aside from renting a car, is to go way out of your way and take a bus or take the train. Neither are close to Disneyland (the bus is closer, but will take you about 3 hours to get to San Diego). Rent a car at the air port, or call your hotel and see what arrangments they can make for you. They are usually more than happy to help! Driving in moving traffic takes about 2 hours.

Some of the hotels on Harbor Blvd do have rental car services on property and there are also a number of companies in the immediate area and most provide pick up/drop off service.

As far as getting to San Diego you can catch the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) just north of Disneyland and head south and that will take you to downtown San Diego.

The drive will take you by some very beautiful scenery of the California coastline.

Go straight down I-5 south.
We traveled down on a Wednesday afternoon about 3p and the traffic wasn't too bad. In fact, in our 9 days in So. Cal, we only encountered a heavy traffic problem once while we were on the highways. Even then, it was no worse than the rush hour here in St. Louis.
About the only thing that gets me about driving the highways there is how the motorcycles zoom in between the lanes and the cars. That's really annoying.

Thanks for the info. I think we're going to rent a van. Another couple may join us so it will be 6 of us at DL and San Diego. We may just rent the van at the airport for the whole week so we can get around San Diego.

Actually, the Anaheim train station is a 5 minute drive from Disneyland main gate where you can pick up the Amtrak surfliner to San Diego. Many people utilize this train station to get to DIsneyland, I don't know why you'd think a bus was more convient (unless it was a specific tourist bus). The Surfliner actually for the most part follows I-5 and in some places gives you an even better view of the area.

I've heard that you can sometimes get good rental rates out of LAX, so it may be worth while to rent for the entire time. That will also save the expense of a shuttle to and from the airport. However, be prepared that some of the hotels charge for parking. As stated earlier, there are several rental companies located right around the Disneyland resort.

You're more train savy than I am! The last time I took one to LA (admittedly), it took me twice as long to get there, and I remember quite a drive, but that was a couple years ago.

It could be you picked up at a different staion. Also the train service has changed over the years.

My kids take the train to San Diego from the Anaheim station often, sometimes twice a month, and it only takes 2 hours, unless there is an accident, mudslide, etc., that might delay them.

For those who like the train, it's very simple. Hookedup has a nice report on this board about her experience with the train to Disneyland.

company that does day tours. I don't know anything about this service personally, but my son grabbed their brochure.

It's /www.CoachUSA.us/ or /www.AnaheimSightseeing.com/

Their # is 714-978-8855.

SeaWorld is $75 per adult, $69 per child. It appears to me that the price of the tour included admission. The booklet says the tour is 11 hours long.

For $110 per adult or $90 per kid you can ad Dine with Shamu to your tour.

If you want just transportation, they offer Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and Knott's Berry Farm for $80 per person. That one is designed for people who have the City Pass.

The San Diego Zoo is $69 per adult, $54 per child.

Legoland is $71 per adult, $60 per child.

A 10 hour tour of LA is $50 per adult, $40 per child.

Knott's Berry Farm is $54 adult, $29 child.

Las Vegas, transportation only, is $92 round trip per adult, $82 per child.

They also have wine tasting tours, Medieval Times tours, a casino, Tijuana, etc.
