Question: Debate if you want--Would you take up a collection for yourself at work?

I don't know if this was the first check or not, but, it totalled 180.00!:o She had till last Thursday to pay it, and failed to. She also works a second job, 4 days a week.:o My Company recently started this rule, if you bounce a check, you must pay it back by a certain date.::yes:: If not, you get suspended.

Hmm, penalize someone who owes you money by making them lose pay? Seems skewed to me.

To answer the original question, no I wouldn't ask co-workers for contributions... I'd just be sure to always mention my money problems to any and all co-workers in hopes they'd get a clue and give me money just so I'd shut up :)

color me confused but where do you work that the employees write checks to the company? Especially ones that large.

I am not sure why an employee would be writing a check to the company, but in any event, unless I knew the person was in dire financial straits, or had a sick child and couldn't work or whatever, no I absolutely would not be contributing to someone begging at work for money to "fix" their bounced check, nor would I ever beg at work.

I have had occasion to contribute to a bake sale for colleagues who have been hit with serious illness and would be out of wrk for a long time, but those are always organized by others, not the person themselves, and that's an understandable reason for doing fundraising IMHO.
