Question concerning ADRs for 1 vs 2

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but here goes. Why do some restaurants only seem to have ADRs for 2? I've noticed this especially at Akershus and Beaches and Cream. I've also seen it at Mama Melrose. I don't understand the reason for this. The same size table is used for either 1 or 2 diners. And if it's by head count, I'd think a single diner would offset a table for 3 better than 2 diners would. I hate having to get an ADR for 2 just so I can eat at Akershus or Beaches and Cream. I know I don't have to pay anything for the 'second' person, but I hate having to say "It's just me" every time they call me back. It's not a big deal, I guess I'm just more curious than anything. :)

They must have updated the software in MDE. In the past, many restaurants could only be booked starting in parties of 2 and then going up. The 3 you listed above, now have the option to book a party of 1 from teh computer or mobile app.

It's just the way it is sometimes. I went solo to Boma a few years ago, but I couldn't get an ADR for 1 so I made it for 2. The day before, I went to the concierge desk at my resort and asked them if they could change the number in my party to 1 and they did it quickly and easily. I'm sure you could just call before your trip and ask them to change it, too.

You should be able to make the ADR in MDE then go in and change the party size from 2 to 1. I've done that a couple of times, although it's been over a year since my last trip. I don't know why the booking issue for 1, but I've run into it before.

Thanks for the responses. Having it set up that way for online reservations makes sense. Curiosity assuaged. :)

I think it happens with other odd numbers too-we had it happen when we were trying for an ADR for 3. We could get 4 but not 3. We made it for 4 and updated the party later.

It's something built into the reservation logic when booking online that doesn't seem to be all that predictable because not all restaurants are the same. I have noticed it with 4 instead of 3, I have often had no luck with 3 and hove lots of options show up for 4.
I've also had the opposite where I only need 2 and show no options but have luck with 3 or 4.
In either case, I've also been able to just adjust my quantity down or up to my actual party size in the modify reservation option without a problem. Perhaps try that to change your 2 to 1.
