Question: Carryon Luggage - CPAP and Rx

A couple of questons regarding carryon luggage.

My MIL is traveling with us and has a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Can she count this as her carryon or personal item?

Also, she has several prescription pills she takes everyday. She normally puts the pills in one of those sorters with a compartment for each day. Can she take that in her carryon? Or does she need to bring the original bottles with her name and all the prescription info on it?

CPAP is a 'free extra" carryon.

I don't carry my meds in the orignal containers unless I am leaving the country. The airline and TSA don't care.

CPAP is considered a medical device and there is no restriction on medical devices or baby items, walkers, canes, strollers, car seats. You used to have to take the CPAP out of the carry on and out of the case so they can swab it but this may have changed as they recently relaxed the requirements on computers and the same may be true of medical devices. Also, TSA isn't concerned with pills, only liquids and gels.

In August I had to take my CPAP out to be swabbed in Dayton, but in Orlando they just scanned it in the xray machine.

I agree with this. I also carry insulin and syringes without the Rx label. It has never been an issue.
