Question Before Accepting CP Offer

Hello everyone -

I was offered the role of Vacation Planner at Disneyland for the college program which I am excited about. But I haven't accepted the offer yet because I was truly hoping to be accepted in a hospitality role such as Front Desk or Guest Services. I only have a couple of more days to accept the offer so I was wondering if anyone knows if I can call Disney recruiting to ask if they can change my role or if I have to accept only what was offered?

I also am "in progress" for Disney Vacation Club Associate and would prefer that over the college program but I haven't been contacted yet for an interview. The DVC Associate has the opportunity to earn a salary plus commission. If I turn down the CP, do you think I would have better chances with the DVC Associate position. I don't want to pass up on an opportunity to get my start with Disney by turning down the DCP but I really don't know if I can survive on the salary (I knew the salary range when I applied was between $8-11/hr I believe but hoped it would be on the higher side).

My opinion - A Bird in the Hand is worth Two in the Bush,

I would think you may have a chance to move to other positions if you accept now.

You cannot change your role, you need to either decline or accept what you were offered. I think you need to think about what your goals are. It's obvious that you want to work for the company since you have also applied for the DVC position.

The good news is that any part time or full time role with the company is considered a promotion and even if you have accepted the CP you can take that position instead as long as your CP has not started. I do not know about the refunding of your $300.

What I would do is accept the VP role. If you are offered the DVC you should be able to move to that role. If not VP is a great role that can really set you up for getting into lodging at the end of your CP.

Thanks, everyone! I know if I accept, I do have to pay $100 but it's nonrefundable. If I decide to back out after accepting, then I wonder how it would affect future employment opportunities.....I'm torn as this was my dream but reality checked in and after doing the math, I won't make enough to pay my bills. I thought of getting another part-time job since the Vacation Planner role is only around 25 hrs/week but not sure how the schedules would work out.

A lot to consider in less than 48 hours :confused3

I will email the recruiting office tonight to see what they say.

I am 100% positive that nobody on these boards can give you a clear answer.

IMHO if you refuse one offer - it may have a negative affect on others.

All that said - talk to Disney and explain the Dilemma - they may not be able to answer as you are dealing with so many different divisions!

DVC, maybe, may be able to say: Cool, he is in the company in some manner - makes it easier to get him to transfer.....

One other thing I can mention: My son and daughter have both done the WDW DCP! They have had friends who were envious and applied. 5 of them have gotten in.

One of them did not want to do DCP, but, the PI. He did not get in to PI so went and did the DCP - busted his butt! He works in QFS in AK, but, picked up shifts at Cinderalla's Castle - and the Manager loved him! He has gotten awards and letters for his service there and the Boss has sent letters recommending him for PI!

My daughter has 1 more year of school, but, picked up 4 shifts at a Resort Restaurant. The manager told her to keep in touch - as he would love to hire her as a PT or FT employee in the future.

Your dreams will come true - Walt and Roy were broke or near it for most of their career.

I declined the DCP offer for Vacation Planner which was a difficult decision to make but after weighing all the benefits, I knew deep in my heart I couldn't survive on the salary which was offered ($9.05/hr for Vacation Planner). I have been waiting 2 years to get into the Program and knew the wage averages when I applied and hoped I could figure out a way to make ends meet (possibly picking up shifts, taking a second job) but I realized I needed the security. If I had been able to stay in Disney housing, it would have been more affordable but I live within 30 minutes of Disneyland. I wish all of you the best of luck and hope they offer my role to someone who has been wanting it more than I thought I did.
